Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Retcons Death Of Original Jurassic Park Villain Lewis Dodgson

The second-to-last episode of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory has changed the story to bring back a villain who was originally killed in Jurassic World Dominion three years ago. A quick scene in the episode “Lights Out” offers a new perspective on this important moment in the Jurassic Park series.

Thirty-two years after a small appearance in the original Jurassic Park, the story of Lewis Dodgson – a villain from the Jurassic series and the main antagonist in season 4 of Chaos Theory – gets a new layer of detail. Although we don’t directly see his death in the final season of the Netflix animated show, we witness the events that directly precede it.

The show continues to alter characters from the original Jurassic Park books in noticeable ways. Interestingly, this happens even though the character, Dodgson, already died in an earlier Jurassic World movie, making this a retroactive change.

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Just Retconned Lewis Dodgson’s Death

I was on the edge of my seat watching Jurassic World: Chaos Theory! It was such a relief to see the Nublar Six, Bumpy, and even Smoothie all make it out okay. And can you believe it was the original T-Rex from Jurassic Park who helped them escape? It was an amazing moment, especially coming so soon after the show’s big villain finally met his end in Biosyn Valley. What a finale!

Near the end of the Chaos Theory series, Darius Bowman, one of the Nublar Six, sees Biosyn’s CEO, Lewis Dodgson, on a security camera as he enters the Biosyn Hyperloop. Dodgson will be killed shortly after.

He was the one who first brought Kenji and Sammy to the Hyperloop earlier in the season. Unfortunately, his suggestion turned out to be a trap, leading them right into the territory of some hungry Dilophosaurus – the same dinosaurs that would eventually be responsible for Dodgson’s demise.

Dodgson Was Killed By Dilophosaurus In Jurassic World Dominion

Lewis Dodgson’s death occurs in the 2022 film Jurassic World Dominion, where he plays the main villain. The scene picks up right after Dodgson steps out of the Hyperloop in the next-to-last episode of Chaos Theory. He emerges into a subway tunnel, only to be confronted by a Dilophosaurus.

He raced back to the train’s entrance and scrambled inside, but his relief was short-lived – two more Dilophosaurus were waiting for him. They sprayed venom in his face, causing him to fall, and the screen cut to black just as a fully-extended Dilophosaurus was about to attack.

Before this moment in Jurassic World Dominion, Dodgson tries to burn some genetically modified locusts he engineered, hoping to cover his tracks. He then runs off with a briefcase containing dinosaur embryos. The next time we see him, he’s sneaking into the Hyperloop system.

As a big fan, I always figured those scenes happened sometime after he trapped Kenji and Sammy in the Hyperloop, but before Darius saw him on the security footage. It’s how the timeline was adjusted in Chaos Theory, and honestly, it just makes his story flow a lot better both in the movie and the series. It keeps his character consistent, which I really appreciate.

Lewis Dodgson Was Jurassic Park’s Original Movie Villain

If John Hammond had been portrayed as the villain in the Jurassic Park movie, like he is in the original book, the entire Jurassic series would have taken a very different direction. Instead, the film showed Hammond as a well-intentioned but overconfident billionaire. The true antagonist of the story only made a brief appearance.

The man was Lewis Dodgson, John Hammond’s biggest competitor. Dodgson hired Jurassic Park employee Dennis Nedry to steal information about Hammond’s dinosaur park, hoping to use it to help his own company, Biosyn, succeed in dinosaur cloning. However, Nedry’s plan failed, and he was killed by a Dilophosaurus – a fate Dodgson himself would share 29 years later.

Dodgson first gained significant recognition as a villain in Michael Crichton’s sequel to Jurassic Park, The Lost World. He later became the primary antagonist in the 2022 Jurassic World film. Now, with Chaos Theory, his storyline appears to be complete.
