Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Finally Brings Yuji Itadori Back to JJK

Launched just over a month ago, Gege Akutami’s new manga series, *Modulo*, is quickly becoming the most popular shonen manga of 2025. While following the success of *Jujutsu Kaisen* presented a challenge, the first six chapters of *Modulo* have been surprisingly well-received, and many fans believe they’re even stronger than the beginning of the original *JJK* series.

Despite being a new story, *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo* still connects to the original *Jujutsu Kaisen*. The latest chapter, *Modulo* Chapter 6, brings back a character fans know – the one who defeated Ryomen Sukuna. More importantly, it sets the stage for a massive conflict: a battle between Jujutsu Society and alien invaders, which promises to be the biggest fight in the entire series.

Yuji Itadori’s Appearance in Chapter 6 Draws an Unexpected Parallel

Before the release of *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo*, fans were eager to learn what happened to Yuji Itadori after his battle with Ryomen Sukuna. While the first chapter of the sequel manga touched on Yuji’s impact, it didn’t reveal much about his life afterward. That’s now changed with Chapter 6 of *Modulo*. Though Yuji isn’t directly named in the chapter, a character named Masaki Takeda recalls a near-death experience and remembers a figure with scars that strongly resemble Yuji. This is the first solid indication of what happened to the main character from *Jujutsu Kaisen* as seen through the eyes of someone currently within that world.

I was really struck by Yuji’s brief appearance in *Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo* Chapter 6. It was a quick scene, but surprisingly effective, especially considering how some fans feel about the series lately. He wasn’t the focus of the chapter at all – he just served as a way to show how frightened Masaki is while battling Maru. I think it was a smart move by Gege Akutami to bring Yuji back as someone Masaki used to fight, instead of having him swoop in as a hero. It really demonstrates growth from the author, as they’re letting the *Modulo* characters shine without relying on the old main character to carry things.

It’s great for Yuji Itadori that Masaki Takeda mentioned him, but this comparison could be important for what happens next in the story. Masaki pointed out that fighting Maru reminded him of fighting Yuji, which actually makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Maru’s out-of-control state in Chapter 6 was very similar to when Yuji lost control and Ryomen Sukuna took over. And according to Masaki – who Tsurugi says is about as strong as a high-level sorcerer – both Maru and Yuji were much more powerful than he was.

Both Maru and Yuji Itadori are incredibly strong and kind, but they also have a hidden, darker side. Beyond these similarities, the story of *Jujutsu Kaisen* suggested Yuji was unknowingly set to cause great destruction, and it appears Tsurugi and Yuka Okkotsu’s new friend in *Modulo* might be facing a similar fate.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo’s War Against Aliens Has Officially Begun

Chapter 6 of *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo* introduces the first real conflict between humans and the Simurian race, and it’s surprisingly complex for the *JJK* series. The encounters between Maru and both Masaki Takeda and Tsurugi are the first direct fights between the two groups. These clashes establish a clear threat: if Maru doesn’t stop, a full-scale war will erupt. This situation adds a lot more depth to the world and political intrigue than what Yuji Itadori usually deals with, demonstrating how much Gege Akutami has improved as a writer since the start of *Jujutsu Kaisen*.

As conflict looms, the characters of *Modulo*’s Simurian cast are really coming into their own, and chapter 6 delivers on that promise. Maru’s intense actions give his usually cheerful personality some much-needed depth, and Cross’s choice to help Tsurugi reveals he questions humanity’s motives, rather than being unable to connect with them. The interplay between these three characters adds complexity to their relationships. However, the chapter’s biggest achievement might be how it develops Dabura, another important Simurian character.

Although Dabura is only briefly mentioned in Chapter 6, his introduction is impactful. When discussing the possibility of war with humans, Cross confidently states they have Dabura on their side, a cool reveal that immediately establishes him as a powerful threat. Given that Maru was easily defeating a Curse User as strong as a Grade 1 Sorcerer, Dabura is likely another Curse User himself – a frightening possibility that emphasizes the severity of Maru’s actions.

For a long time, Ryomen Sukuna was the main villain in *Jujutsu Kaisen*, so it’s exciting to see *Modulo* introduce a new major antagonist. Dabura has a lot to live up to, following such a popular villain, but so far, the author is doing a great job establishing him as a powerful threat. Unlike Sukuna, who was charismatic, *Modulo* is building Dabura’s fear factor by keeping him mostly in the shadows. This creates a constant sense of danger for all the characters and could make Dabura even more terrifying than Sukuna was.

Modulo Chapter 6 Nails Every Part of Its Presentation

The first six chapters of Gege Akutami’s *Modulo*, a follow-up to *Jujutsu Kaisen*, have exceeded expectations. This isn’t just due to the new villains being better than anticipated. *Modulo* shines with its gorgeous artwork, clever humor, strong world-building, and heartfelt portrayal of family. It’s exactly what fans hope for in a sequel – a story that honors the original while confidently forging its own path.

Chapter 6 of *Modulo* is a standout in the *Jujutsu Kaisen* series, and many fans consider it the most fun chapter since the height of the Gojo versus Sukuna battle. It’s also arguably the most skillfully crafted chapter since the Shibuya Incident. The decision to have Yuji Iwasaki handle the art for *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo* appears to have been a great one, and Gege Akutami’s writing is particularly strong, especially when exploring the relationship between the siblings featured in *Modulo*.

One of the things that always made *Jujutsu Kaisen* stand out was its insightful look at family dynamics, so it’s fitting that this is even more central in *Modulo*. The sequel manga also builds on the strengths of the original with its character designs, action sequences, and humor, all of which are contributing to its promising start.

Despite some storytelling issues in *Jujutsu Kaisen* becoming apparent during the Culling Game Arc, there’s still a lot to look forward to. Fans are justified in their enthusiasm for *Modulo*, as it has the potential to be the best continuation of a modern *shonen* manga. The combination of jujutsu sorcerers and aliens was unexpected, but it’s currently working incredibly well.
