Josh Brolin Goes From Thanos To Darkseid In DC Fan Art (And Sign Me Up)

I’m still amazed by how huge comic books are! It’s so exciting to see these shared universes battling it out in theaters. I’ve been following James Gunn’s work with the new DC Universe closely – he’s already given us three awesome projects in cinemas and on HBO Max. Everyone’s buzzing about who’s going to be cast in future DC films, and I have to say, I’m completely on board with the fan art I’ve seen reimagining Josh Brolin as Darkseid! It’s a brilliant idea, and I’d love to see it happen.

The first slate of DCU projects is called Gods and Monsters, and will feature a variety of different titles. Given how iconic and powerful Darkseid is, it seems inevitable that he show up at some point in the future. And thanks to fan art from the Instagram of Boss Logic, we can imagine Brolin as ruler of Apokolips. Check it out below:

It’s amazing how well Josh Brolin brought Thanos to life using motion capture! Now that he’s proven he can handle a powerful, physically demanding role like that, he’d be a fantastic choice to play Darkseid in the new DC Universe. He clearly wasn’t limited by the motion capture process, so why not bring his talents over? Finding the right actor to play Darkseid is a tough task, and Brolin would be a perfect fit, especially with James Gunn and Peter Safran leading the charge.

HBO Max offers a wide range of movies, shows, documentaries, and DC content, with plans starting at $9.99 per month (with ads). You can subscribe for access to thousands of titles. See the deal here.

As a lifelong DC fan, I remember when Darkseid first showed up in the comics way back in 1970. He’s been a constant presence ever since – in the comics, cartoons, and games. We movie fans who’ve followed the DC films closely finally saw him come to life in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, with Ray Porter doing a fantastic job. Though, his role was kind of limited – he was mostly pulling the strings behind Steppenwolf. Because of that, many of us who’ve loved Darkseid for years are still really hoping he gets to be the main villain in his own movie someday.

Look, let’s be real – as much as fans want it, there’s been absolutely no hint that James Gunn is planning to introduce Darkseid into the DCU right away. Looking at the announced slate of movies and shows under the ‘Gods and Monsters’ banner, he’s nowhere to be found. Honestly, it makes a lot of sense to me – I think they’re wisely holding off on bringing in a heavy hitter like that until they’ve actually built a proper Justice League. You need that team established before you drop a New God like Darkseid into the mix, you know?

This amazing fan art has gotten people wondering if Darkseid might appear in the new Superman movie. James Gunn has hinted that Superman: Man of Tomorrow will feature a team-up between Superman and Lex Luthor to fight a shared enemy. Many believe that enemy will be Brainiac, but it’s also possible it could be Darkseid. We’ll have to wait for James Gunn to reveal more information.

You can now watch Superman on HBO Max, along with other DC shows like Creatures Commandos and Season 2 of Peacemaker. Black Friday is a great time to subscribe if you don’t already have access! The next DC film coming to theaters is Supergirl, scheduled for release on June 26th, as part of their plans through 2026. Fans are hoping James Gunn will share more casting announcements soon.
