Jonathan Majors’ Daily Wire Action Thriller Comeback Gets ‘Red Dawn’-Style Plot

An actor previously involved in controversy from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is trying to revive his career with a series of action movies. His latest project is an action thriller made in partnership with the conservative media company, The Daily Wire. Details have just been released about the supporting cast and the storyline, which many are finding unoriginal.

Jonathan Majors quickly became a rising star after appearing in the HBO series Lovecraft Country. This success led to prominent roles in films like the Western The Harder They Fall, the war movie Devotion, the highly praised Magazine Dreams, and Creed III, a sequel in the Rocky franchise. However, his most significant role was playing the supervillain Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Jonathan Majors first appeared as Kang in the Disney+ series Loki, and was set to be the central villain of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga, culminating in a major role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. However, his career quickly derailed after his arrest in 2023 on charges of assault, strangulation, and harassment. He was later convicted of misdemeanor assault and harassment, with multiple other women also accusing him of abuse. As a result, Marvel fired him and removed him from upcoming projects, including a campaign with the U.S. Army.

Despite recent controversies, Jonathan Majors is continuing his career with a new action thriller from The Daily Wire. Filming has begun on the project, which is inspired by classic 80s and 90s action films like Red Dawn and Toy Soldiers. You can find a summary of the plot on Deadline.

When America is attacked, our brave military personnel respond with incredible courage and powerful force to protect the values and freedoms that define our nation.

The film also stars David Lucas (known for Kill Tony), JC Kilcoyne (Fix You), Tyler Aser (The Mystery Of Her), James Bingham (Swagger), Savanna Leigh James (The Bold and the Beautiful), Stephen Hailo (S.W.A.T.), Myles Clohessy (Frontier Crucible), Travis Mills (The Pendragon Cycle), and musician Darby Cappillino. Kyle Rankin wrote and directed the film.

This new action thriller is Jonathan Majors’ first role since the controversies of 2023, and he has two other action hero roles coming up. He’ll star in Merciless, a revenge story directed by Martin Villeneuve, brother of Dune director Denis Villeneuve. The film’s title has sparked discussion about how Majors is handling public relations, but the story centers on a highly skilled CIA interrogator who must resort to extreme measures when the woman he loves is threatened by a powerful evil force.

Jonathan Majors will star as Venon Threat in the upcoming film True Threat. The story follows Threat’s pursuit of justice after his son is killed by a Harlem gang called The Apollo Kids. Inspired by action movies like The Raid, the film features Threat infiltrating the gang’s 20-story headquarters, battling his way to the top to face the leader – who used to be his mentor. This role appears to be Majors’ attempt to establish himself as a new, tough action star, following recent controversies.
