Jonathan Bailey, known for his role in Wicked: For Good, has expressed interest in playing Batman in James Gunn’s new DC Universe. However, he has a condition: he’d want to have input on who is cast as Robin before accepting the role.

Jonathan Bailey recently talked to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show about being named People’s Sexiest Man Alive and his upcoming movie, Wicked: For Good, where he reprises his role as Prince Fiyero. Fallon then playfully asked Bailey about some fan speculation online – specifically, whether he might be considered to play Batman in the new DC Universe.

Before answering a question, Bailey playfully suggested to Jimmy Fallon that Fallon could be his Robin, a surprising idea that Fallon immediately embraced. The “Wicked” star then considered the possibility of playing Batman, noting he grew up watching Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Robert Pattinson in the role. He called it a significant legacy and praised James Gunn’s work.

DC Studios hasn’t announced when they’ll start searching for an actor to play Batman in the new DC Universe. The character is expected to first appear in the upcoming movie, The Brave and the Bold, which will be directed by Andy Muschietti. The film will be inspired by the comic book storyline “Batman and Son” by Grant Morrison, which featured the introduction of the character Damian Wayne.

While fans wait for the next DC Universe film, they can look forward to Matt Reeves’ upcoming movie, The Batman Part II. Production on the sequel is set to start in early 2026, with a planned theatrical release in October 2027.
