Viewers in the U.S. are watching 21 Jump Street again on Apple TV. The show has become increasingly popular over the last three days, moving from number 22 to number 10 on the platform’s charts. It currently ranks behind other hit shows such as House, Reacher, and ALF, according to FlixPatrol.
Johnny Depp Was Miserable Making 21 Jump Street
21 Jump Street was a TV drama that ran on Fox from 1987 to 1991. The show followed a team of young-looking police officers who went undercover to solve crimes happening in high schools, gangs, and other places where teenagers hung out.
Before the movie series came out, 21 Jump Street was most famous for launching Johnny Depp’s career. Although he’s grateful for the opportunity it provided, Depp revealed in 2025 that he actually disliked filming the original TV show.
Johnny Depp explained to The Times UK in June 2025 that while he felt fortunate, the attention became awkward. He noticed people began talking about him as soon as he entered a room, and an unwanted public image started to form—one he couldn’t change.
Despite trying to move past it, Johnny Depp struggled to escape being known for his role on 21 Jump Street. He acted in several dramatic and darkly comedic films throughout the 1990s with mixed results, but truly became a major star in the 2000s thanks to his performance as Captain Jack Sparrow.
Johnny Depp was a huge movie star for ten years, but his popularity started to decline around 2015. Following a break from acting, partly due to legal issues with his former wife, Amber Heard, Depp is now working to revive his career in Hollywood.
Paramount will release actor Rupert Grint’s first big Hollywood movie in eight years on November 13th. The film, called Ebenezer, is a fantasy adventure also starring Ian McKellen, Daisy Ridley, and Sam Claflin.
A New Jump Street Movie Is Finally Happening
After more than ten years of delays, a third Jump Street movie is now in development at Sony. Originally, the plan was to combine Jump Street with Sony’s Men in Black franchise in a film called 23 Jump Street, but that idea fell through. According to producer Lord, they decided to move away from that crossover “out of respect for the dead.”
Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube are returning for another Jump Street movie, continuing their roles from the previous two films. Rodney Rothman will direct; he was previously involved with a planned female-led 21 Jump Street spinoff that ultimately didn’t happen.
