Jimmy Kimmel Renews ABC Contract To 2027

Jimmy Kimmel’s future with ABC is secure. After a challenging year, many thought he might leave his late-night show when his contract ended in May 2026, especially since Kimmel himself hinted he was considering his options. However, he’s now signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him on air through the 2026-2027 season.

Things have been incredibly up and down for me as a viewer of Jimmy Kimmel lately. First, there was a huge controversy over some comments he made about Charlie Kirk, which led to him being off the air for a week. Honestly, the reaction felt unusually strong for TV. But then, when he came back, his show had the biggest audience it’s seen in years! It was amazing to see. Sadly, right after that, we learned about the passing of Cleto Escobedo III, his bandleader who’d been with the show forever. It really made me wonder if Kimmel would even continue, especially since he’d previously talked about thinking about what the future held for him.

I get asked that a lot, but I’ve realized it’s best to stay quiet. I used to predict how a project would go – saying it would be similar to my previous ones – but then things would inevitably turn out differently. After doing that with the last three contracts, I decided it just worries my team, so I don’t make predictions anymore.

As a movie and TV fan, I have to admit it’s pretty amusing to see how much attention Donald Trump pays to Jimmy Kimmel. I mean, the news about Kimmel’s contract renewal will probably make the former president really happy! He’s been actively posting about Kimmel on Truth Social for months, so it seems he enjoys watching the late-night show – or at least, talking about it. It’s good for him to know he can keep ‘supporting’ his favorite late-night host for at least another year and a half.

Why Does Jimmy Kimmel Goad Donald Trump So Much?

ABC

Over the past few years, Jimmy Kimmel and Donald Trump have frequently clashed, with their back-and-forth becoming a common theme in Kimmel’s late-night show openings – some viewers felt it happened too often. However, when Kimmel faced suspension, the public showed strong support, which was a noticeable difference from how the president reacted when Kimmel wasn’t on the air.

Soon after coming back to television, Kimmel explained why he’s so critical of Donald Trump, stating:

Some people feel I criticize Donald Trump too much, and some even think I should be taken off the air for it. The reason I talk about him so often is because he acts like a bully. I really dislike bullies, and Trump reminds me of the classic 80s movie bully – the type who’d take your lunch money, and keep taking it if you let him. That’s just the kind of person he is.

Honestly, it seems like Donald Trump is going to have Jimmy Kimmel constantly commenting on his presidency for the next four years. And you know, Kimmel actually said he’d quit his show when Trump’s term is over, so it feels like that’s become a real promise now – a deal that might actually happen!
