Several movie musicals have been awarded the Best Picture Oscar, including films directed or written by Bill Condon. Condon, known for his work on *Chicago*, later brought another musical to the screen with *Kiss of the Spider Woman*, which received a standing ovation for Jennifer Lopez at the Sundance Film Festival. Lopez’s co-stars, Diego Luna and Tonatiuh, recently shared with TopMob how she supported the cast during filming.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were key to making this project happen – he as a producer and she as the star. Beyond performing, Jennifer Lopez also supported her fellow actors while preparing for the musical numbers in *Kiss of the Spider Woman*. In the video above, I spoke with Diego Luna about his experience working with JLo, and he shared with me:
She said a lot of things that meant a great deal to me, especially during a difficult time. She was incredibly supportive and helped me through everything. One thing she said really stuck with me: that dancing reveals your true emotions. You can’t fake it, so she encouraged me to let go, have fun, and just enjoy the moment, because people will see your genuine feelings.
That’s really solid advice. Jennifer Lopez, being a world-famous singer and dancer, understands what it takes to perform well. She believes that if you’re enjoying yourself on stage, the audience will enjoy it too, and it sounds like Luna really took that to heart.
After starring in the Disney+ series *Andor*, Diego Luna is again portraying a rebel fighting against a controlling government – this time in *Kiss of the Spider Woman*. This role adds a new challenge: singing and dancing alongside Jennifer Lopez. Luna recently shared how JLo’s guidance helped him prepare for this musical aspect of the production.
Honestly, watching this felt like a weight lifted. It reminded me that sometimes, you just have to enjoy the journey and trust that things will eventually fall into place. It’s a story about dedication and knowing that hard work pays off… eventually. But beyond that, it really highlighted the incredible spirit of the lead actress. She’s so generous with her performance, and truly embodies the discipline and sheer determination this role demanded. She sets a standard for everyone involved, pushing them to be their best.
Jennifer Lopez truly shines in *Kiss of the Spider Woman*, bringing both her skills as a popular musician and a talented actress to the role. It’s not surprising that her performance is receiving so much positive attention and talk of potential awards.

I recently spoke with Tonatiuh, who you might recognize from *Vida*, and he’s starring as Molina in the movie musical version of *Kiss of the Spider Woman*! It’s a huge role, and he’s working with incredible actors like Diego Luna and Jennifer Lopez. He told me about how he first felt when he found out he’d landed the part, and it was fascinating to hear…
Finding out I’d been cast was surreal – it felt like I might actually be going to the Olympics! Jennifer is a truly phenomenal performer with a long and impressive career full of groundbreaking work.
He’s right to be excited. Jennifer Lopez is a huge star with a long list of successful movies and songs, so collaborating with her would be an incredible experience. He’s not just working with her, he’s going to be singing and dancing alongside her – that’s a lot to live up to, but it’s also amazing!
Honestly, it’s really cool to hear that working with those big names didn’t stress him out at all! It sounds like the *Promised Land* actor actually *enjoyed* the experience and really appreciated getting to work alongside such established stars. He’s even said himself:
Joining the project with her and Diego, who’s been involved since he was young, and working in a creative environment led by Bill Condon felt like a dream come true – a chance to collaborate with incredibly talented people.
I just saw *Kiss of the Spider Woman*, and Tonatiuh was incredible as Molina. His performance was truly memorable, and he seemed completely comfortable acting alongside Jennifer Lopez and Diego Luna – you’d never know he was nervous.
