It’s well-known that Jenna Ortega‘s skills and drive will take her places, and indeed, she’s accumulated an impressive acting portfolio, such as voicing Wednesday Addams, a role about which she expressed creative reservations. Given this, it’s not shocking that she desires more. Ortega has openly shared her ambition to direct films in the future, but recently disclosed the genres she is drawn towards. I, like many others, am eagerly anticipating what lies ahead for her aspirations.
At a press conference for Season 2 of Wednesday, which concluded its two-part release on Netflix’s 2025 schedule, Ortega revealed to People some other projects she’d like to work on. Interestingly, her response aligned with the eerie atmosphere of the streaming show and collaboration with director Ti West. The 22-year-old was quite particular about the type of movie she wants to produce, elaborating on her vision for a future project.
It’d either be, like, really graphic and German, or really grounded and nasty.
I’m really captivated by her for a rising star! After all, she’s consistently landed some of the most self-aware horror classics in Hollywood (like Scream, Wednesday, and Beetlejuice), and her work in other genre films like X and Death of a Unicorn shows her versatility. I can only imagine how brilliantly she would bring either role to life – whether as an actor or director. Frankly, I’m eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see her shine!
Ortega promptly clarified my previous question about her taking on a new role, and provided an estimated timeline for when this might occur. However, it appears that this isn’t happening right now. For the time being, she seems content with her current position and admitted that she still cherishes the idea of this role as something to aspire towards. In her own words:
At this stage of my life, I haven’t encountered that situation yet. While it’s an appealing thought to achieve it, I believe the reality is significantly distinct when you eventually encounter it.
Death of a Unicorn” and “Hurry Up Tomorrow.” It’s easy to assume that her directing aspirations serve as a welcome break amidst juggling multiple sets for these projects.
Beyond sharing her professional choices and estimated schedule, Ortega expressed her preference for the eerie aspect of Hollywood in a broader sense. She particularly mentioned that her preferred movies have an element of realism combined with a touch of the fantastical or absurd. This might explain why she appreciates horror films, as they often challenge expectations by bending them.
Perhaps one reason I enjoy horror is due to its tendency to delve into the incredibly unsettling or implausible.
Her thinking isn’t off base, and fellow fans like me share her perspective. There’s definitely room for creativity and unconventional storytelling in this area. In today’s world of streaming content, it’s one of the best ways to keep a show feeling fresh and engaging. It wouldn’t surprise me if this was one factor driving Ortega’s desire for “more horror” in the second season of Wednesday.
As a cinema enthusiast, the prospect of a future directorial venture by the talented Jenna Ortega ignites an exhilarating anticipation within me. It’s truly fascinating to learn that she is contemplating such a project.
