Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Destination X Is Still Waiting On Renewal, But Another NBC Competition Show Is Definitely Coming Back With A Big Change

During summer, NBC’s primetime schedule becomes quite competitive, and the 2025 TV schedule is no different. Besides America’s Got Talent celebrating its 20th season, Jeffrey Dean Morgan from The Walking Dead: Dead City decided to take a break from the zombie apocalypse to host Destination X – a fresh travel series where competitors vie for a significant cash prize. The first season of Destination X concluded without a decision on another season, but NBC has confirmed that one show will return with some modifications.

What About Destination X Season 2?

As a devoted movie buff, let me share my thoughts on the first season of ‘Destination X.’ Initially, I found myself unimpressed and somewhat puzzled by its premiere. However, as the season unfolded, I found myself invested in the storylines, particularly rooting against a certain reality star (looking at you, Peter Weber). The climax arrived with the finale, where my chosen contestant was triumphant – a satisfying twist indeed!

The future of ‘Destination X’ remains uncertain as NBC has yet to confirm whether there will be a second season. However, executive producer Andy Cadman seems optimistic about Rick Szabo’s victory, hinting at potential sequels when speaking with Variety. Here’s to hoping for more exciting adventures in the world of ‘Destination X!’

We’re bursting with creative concepts. My enthusiasm for a second season is immense. It must grow even larger. There are numerous unexplored directions we haven’t ventured into, and there’s still much of Europe that remains undiscovered.

Although it’s not definitive, I interpret this as a positive indication that Destination X could return to NBC’s summer schedule next year. It also suggests the show will likely continue exploring Europe, as there are still significant locations left unexplored. You can stream all the episodes currently available with a Peacock subscription.

I’m all for Verona, Italy, primarily because I was convinced it was the location for the series premiere (it was actually Rome). For now, I’m just waiting to hear if and when Destination X will return. However, the show that has been confirmed to be back is American Ninja Warrior, as per NBC’s recent announcement.

American Ninja Warrior Renewed With A New Twist

American Ninja Warrior has turned into a regular summer event on NBC, and right now, the Season 17 finals are airing every Monday evening. To keep fans engaged with the finale approaching, the network has already announced that there will be a Season 18. This announcement also revealed that Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabiamila will continue as hosts, while Zuri Hall will return as the sideline reporter in the upcoming season.

Additionally, there’s an innovative tweak coming our way, though not as impactful as lowering the age limit on American Ninja Warrior to 15, it will undoubtedly distinguish Season 18 from previous seasons. Notably, all rounds will be filmed in Las Vegas, and production for the upcoming season begins this fall. Furthermore, a fresh round has been added to the competition.

In this upcoming contest, competitors will race on a massive three-lane track, where they’ll directly challenge each other instead of merely having their times compared. They’ll compete side by side in three-way races, with auditions ongoing to find the next group of ninjas vying for the top prize of $250,000.

It’s likely that NBC will continue to air “American Ninja Warrior” in their summer schedule given that Season 17 has already attracted over 23 million viewers combined on both Peacock and NBC, making it one of the Top 5 most-watched entertainment shows with linear total viewers.

It’s highly likely that America’s Got Talent will be back next summer. The main curiosity now lies in whether NBC’s summer competitions will also feature a repeat of Destination X.
