Jason Momoa Addresses Lobo’s DCU Future After Supergirl & How It Compares To DCEU

This summer, the DC Universe is bringing Supergirl to the big screen and welcoming back Jason Momoa. But instead of playing Aquaman again, Momoa will be taking on the role of Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl movie.

Jason Momoa recently discussed the creative shift between Zack Snyder’s DC films and James Gunn’s new DC Universe (DCU) in an interview with Liam Crowley of ScreenRant for The Wrecking Crew. He’s transitioning from playing Aquaman to Lobo in the DCU. Momoa explained that the two approaches feel very different, largely because the characters themselves are distinct. He noted that his involvement with the previous DC films began with just a concept in Batman v Superman and then developed through Justice League.

The actor, known for Game of Thrones, explained that Zack Snyder had a very detailed plan for the project. However, regarding future DC Universe plans, he only knows that Lobo will be involved, and he’s hoping a standalone project for his character will emerge.

Momoa admitted he wasn’t sure what the future holds for his character, suggesting it largely depends on how fans react. He added that he isn’t aware of any specific plans. He also praised both James Gunn and Zack Snyder, stating that they’ve both created incredible cinematic universes and have equally impressive careers as directors.

Let me tell you, stepping into the role of Lobo was a dream come true. Seriously, a real ‘pinch me’ moment! And my very first scene? It’s intense – honestly, I’d be shocked if another actor could nail that first take the way we did. I can’t wait to talk about the challenges because it was hard, but I threw myself into it completely, and I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved.

DC Studios hasn’t revealed what’s next for Jason Momoa’s character, Lobo, after the Supergirl movie, but there are many options. He could show up in future DC Universe films in smaller roles before potentially getting his own standalone project.
