Jason David Frank’s Legend of the White Dragon Sets New Release Date on the Perfect Date

Fans now have a release date for Jason David Frank’s last movie, which will finally be shown in theaters after being delayed for years.

Bat in the Sun, the production company behind the film, recently announced on Facebook that Legend of the White Dragon will be shown in some cinemas later this year. Fans can catch it on the big screen on Power Rangers Day, August 28th.

What Is Legend of the White Dragon?

Aaron Schoenke, co-founder of Bat in the Sun, directed Legend of the White Dragon, which was made possible by a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020. The film tells the story of a former superhero who’s now a fugitive, and his attempt to return home, prove his innocence, and reconnect with family and friends.

The film features Schoenke as Jai Katua, who plays the villain Dragon Prime. It also includes appearances by former Power Rangers stars Jason Faunt, Cerina Vincent, and Ciara Hanna. Completing the main cast are Mayling Ng, David Ramsey, Mark Dacascos, Andrew Bachelor, and the late Michael Madsen, in one of his last performances before his death in 2025.

The film’s plans have faced several delays in the past. However, despite the SAG-AFTRA strike last year, they were able to complete some extra filming in 2023, and finished all editing and other post-production work earlier this year.

Jason David Frank’s Power Rangers Legacy — Explained

Jason David Frank, born in 1973, became a pop culture icon thanks to his role in the 1993 series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Though originally planned for only 14 episodes, his character was so well-received that he quickly returned, helping to establish the lasting legacy of the Power Rangers franchise.

Throughout his career, Jason David Frank played a central role in many different Power Rangers series, starting with the original and continuing through shows like Power Rangers Zeo, Power Rangers Dino Thunder, and even the Power Rangers Super Megaforce finale. His last appearance as a Power Ranger was in a special 25th anniversary episode of Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel in 2018, after which he stepped away from the franchise.

Frank’s work continues to influence the Power Rangers series, and will likely do so as long as new stories are created. A new book is coming out in May with several stories, including one that follows Tommy Oliver as the last Power Ranger on Earth.

Legend of the White Dragon is slated to be available in select theaters on Aug. 28.
