The two most popular anime currently come from well-known franchises in Japan. One of them, Nohara Hiroshi, is a spin-off focusing on Shinnosuke’s father, Hiroshi, who works as a manager at a marketing company. The series is a lighthearted look at Hiroshi’s daily life, specifically his lunch breaks and the delicious food he enjoys. It received a very positive reaction upon release, with many viewers predicting that Nohara Hiroshi will be the biggest anime of 2025.
3-Nen Z Gumi: Ginpachi-sensei is a spin-off series based on the popular Gintama franchise, which began as a manga in 2003 by Hideaki Sorachi. The original Gintama follows Gintoki Sakata, a samurai who takes on odd jobs in an Edo-era Japan that’s been invaded by aliens. He leads a group called the Yorozuya, who sometimes get involved in the conflict between aliens and humans. This new anime series, the first since the 2011 Gintama movie, reimagines Gintoki as a teacher, leading a class of quirky characters from the original series. Fans in Japan are thrilled to see the franchise return and have responded positively to the new show.
Japan’s most popular choices for Fall 2025 include two series from Shonen Jump that are well-known around the world. Spy x Family, which came in seventh place, is based on Tatsuya Endo’s manga and has sold over 38 million copies globally. This action-comedy follows the everyday adventures of a spy named Agent Twilight, an assassin named Yor, and a young telepath named Anya. My Hero Academia, in eighth place, is a popular anime based on Kohei Horikoshi’s manga. Its new season, MHA: The Final Season, began airing in Japan on October 4, 2025, and will wrap up the conflict between the heroes and Tomura Shigaraki’s forces.
