The newest confirmed superhero for James Gunn’s DC Universe is another member of the Justice League, making a total of three heroes announced so far. With teams like the Justice Gang, Creature Commandos, and Suicide Squad already established, and plans for the Bat-Family and Teen Titans, the DCU is quickly building a large roster of heroes. However, DC Studios hasn’t announced when the Justice League will officially team up in a big crossover event – similar to The Avengers – which is expected to conclude the first phase of the DCU, titled ‘Gods & Monsters’.
The Justice League franchise faced some uncertainty after the 2017 movie didn’t perform well with audiences or critics. This led to a four-year fan campaign to release Zack Snyder’s original vision, which finally happened with the four-hour “Snyder Cut” on HBO Max in 2021.
DC Studios is taking a unique approach with its reboot, immediately immersing fans in a world where heroes and villains already exist. Next year, James Gunn will direct a follow-up to his DC Universe blockbuster, a Superman sequel called Man of Tomorrow. This new film will feature returning characters from this universe, including several future members of the Justice League, as they battle the villain Brainiac.
Aaron Pierre – Green Lantern

The next Superman movie is swapping one Green Lantern character for another. After Nathan Fillion plays Guy Gardner in a 2025 film, Aaron Pierre will reprise his role as John Stewart. Viewers will be introduced to the popular superhero and space law enforcer this August in Lanterns, which shows his training with experienced Lantern Hal Jordan.
This year, fans can look forward to seeing Stewart and Gardner together, as Fillion will play a well-known, somewhat unpleasant superhero in the HBO series. It leaves many wondering if Pierre’s new DC character will quickly join the Justice League, or if he’ll strike out on his own in Man of Tomorrow.
It’s uncertain if Kyle Chandler, known for his Emmy-winning work, will reprise his role as Hal Jordan in future films, considering his frequent presence as a core Justice League member. Many fans believe Hal Jordan will not survive the events of the upcoming Lanterns movie, paving the way for John Stewart to become the DC Universe’s Green Lantern.
David Corenswet – Superman

David Corenswet’s Superman is now the central figure for DC Studios’ new shared universe, and he’s destined to lead the Justice League. However, before that happens, Superman will unexpectedly team up with Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, to defeat the villain Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger.
There’s been talk that Superman, especially with the upcoming film Man of Tomorrow, will lead the Justice League’s new direction, moving away from being known as the ‘Justice Gang.’ Before facing his biggest challenge yet, actor David Corenswet will first appear as Superman in Supergirl later this year, playing a supporting role alongside Supergirl.
Isabela Merced – Hawkgirl

Isabela Merced, known for her role in The Last of Us, will reprise her role as Hawkgirl in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow film. This will be Hawkgirl’s third appearance in the DC Universe, following her roles in Superman and a cameo in Season 2 of Peacemaker. Hawkgirl is a long-standing member of the Justice League, notably appearing in the popular DC Animated Universe cartoon.
Viewers first encountered Kendra Saunders as Hawkgirl alongside Superman in a previous story, where she was part of a team and ultimately defeated the President of Boravia. If Hawkgirl joins the new Justice League in the DC Universe, Superman might need to help her embrace a more optimistic and classically heroic persona.
Here’s When the Rest of the DCU’s Justice League Will Be Introduced

The Justice League typically consists of seven core heroes, and three of them—including those reported to appear in Man of Tomorrow—are likely to be part of the new DC Universe lineup. Popular members like Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter are frequently featured on the team and may continue to be in the DCU.
Fans now know who will be writing the new Batman and Wonder Woman movies. Christina Hodson, the writer of The Flash, is working on introducing Batman in The Brave and the Bold, and Ana Nogueira, who wrote Supergirl, is developing a reboot of Wonder Woman. However, neither film has a confirmed release date yet.
DC Studios faces a challenge with The Flash. The recent TV series, while lasting nine seasons, lost steam towards the end, and the recent movie performed poorly in theaters. Because of this, it’s probable that The Flash will next appear as a supporting character in someone else’s project, like the upcoming true-crime series on HBO Max.
When a new Aquaman appears in the DC Universe, he’ll likely be a fresh take on the character, potentially resembling his traditionally blonde-haired comic book version. Considering Jason Momoa’s Aquaman starred in DC’s most financially successful film, it’s probable that the studio will eventually reboot the character with another solo movie.
Fans are speculating that James Gunn is hinting at the Martian Manhunter appearing in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow movie, though there’s not much evidence to support this. However, it’s likely we’ll see J’onn J’onzz join forces with other heroes in a future team-up project.
Cyborg has sometimes been depicted as one of the original members of the Justice League, notably in the Snyderverse films where Ray Fisher portrayed him. However, in the new DC Universe (DCU), he’s currently planned to be a member of the Teen Titans. While a Teen Titans movie is in development, it isn’t a priority at the moment.
By the time the DCU has all its planned projects in place, it will have been more than ten years since the last Justice League movie came out. While Man of Tomorrow hinted at a potential team, a full reboot with a new Justice League is likely several years away – probably sometime after 2030, considering how quickly the DCU is moving forward.
