The latest remarks by James Gunn about Superman are sparking excitement among DC Universe fans, as they speculate that a Green Arrow project might be on the horizon.
Currently, you can catch Superman on the big screens across the United States. This DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures production is helmed by Gunn and features David Corenswet portraying the main character, Superman. Rachel Brosnahan takes on the role of Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult plays Lex Luthor.
In December 2024, Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe (DCU) officially debuted with Creature Commandos as its first project. After Superman, the following DCU production will be Peacemaker Season 2. It is anticipated that Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface will all make their appearances in 2026.
What did James Gunn say about Superman?
In an interview with CBS Mornings, Gunn shared the reasoning behind his decision not to make Superman, as Kal-El, omnipotent. This creative choice, he explained, also influences the portrayal of other DC characters such as Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow.
According to Gunn, certain comic book writers, such as Grant Morrison, crafted compelling narratives using the concept of all-powerful figures like Superman. However, for Gunn personally, as a kid, he preferred Batman over Superman because Superman was too powerful at times. In our upcoming universe of characters, Gunn doesn’t want one character to be so much stronger than the rest that characters with less power, like those with a bow and arrow, would become insignificant.
Due to these developments, fans are optimistic that they might hear about a Green Arrow DCU update soon.
Currently, there’s no confirmed actor for the role of Oliver Queen in the DCU. However, the cast for the Superman series includes Edi Gathegi portraying Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer, and others.
