James Gunn, one of the co-CEOs at DC Studios, announced that he will soon address numerous queries regarding which aspects of the Snyderverse remain valid within the DC Universe (DCU). As Gunn guides the transition into the new DCU, he plans to retain certain characters and storylines from the DCEU (also known as the Snyderverse), primarily those stemming from “The Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker,” both of which were created by Gunn himself. He has referred to these events as somewhat unreliable recollections within the DCU continuity.
The ambiguity of this explanation has sparked curiosity among many about which events are considered canonical as they lead into the DCU. Clarity is anticipated to be provided when Peacemaker Season 2 debuts on HBO Max in August, now firmly established within the reboot timeline.
James Gunn announced that the Peacemaker: The Official Podcast will debut on July 24, with fresh episodes airing every Monday and Thursday until August 18 to cover the entirety of Season 1. During the podcast, Gunn revealed that he would clarify “what is considered canon and what isn’t in the DCU,” emphasizing the minor discrepancies between the Snyderverse and Gunnverse interpretations of Season 1.
So far, Gunn has made it evident that the key distinction between Peacemaker Season 1 within the DCEU as opposed to the DCU lies in the finale’s appearances by Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller from the Justice League. This podcast will provide an opportunity for the head of the DCU to clarify some minor references and jokes that may have caused confusion, before Season 2 debuts in late August.
Moreover, the Peacemaker podcast is scheduled to resume on August 21, coinciding with the Season 2 premiere, where it will analyze and dissect the upcoming episodes released on HBO Max.

How DC Studios Could Rewrite Peacemaker Season 1 Canon
In simpler terms, it’s likely that the appearances of Aquaman (played by Jason Momoa) and The Flash (portrayed by Ezra Miller) in “Peacemaker” will not be considered part of the DCU continuity. It’s intriguing to speculate if creator James Gunn could rework these scenes for a potential Season 2, swapping them out with the Justice League from Superman’s era as an alternative to the Snyderverse characters.
In the sequel of “Peacemaker”, it has been confirmed that members of the Justice League will make an appearance, as Peacemaker tries out for Maxwell Lord’s team. The arrival of the Justice League just in time to aid the 11th Street Kids at the butterflies’ barn could serve as a fitting prelude to this event.
When considering potential changes to the DC Universe’s continuity, it might be necessary to remove or alter references to characters like Green Arrow, The Flash, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman if these particular heroes have not been introduced in this specific universe yet.
