Jack Black’s 48% Rotten Tomatoes Minecraft Just Became One of 2026’s Biggest Streaming Hits

Jack Black is a hugely popular actor known for his energetic and funny performances. Despite his success, critics weren’t kind to his movie, A Minecraft Movie. But now that more people are watching it and giving it high ratings, it’s clear the critics got it wrong – it’s actually a really enjoyable film!

If you check the Amazon Prime Video app, you’ll find that the movie Minecraft, starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, is currently very popular – it’s one of the top ten movies on the platform, landing at number four.

Despite being a lot of fun and filled with nostalgia, the movie has received mostly negative reviews from critics, currently holding a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This surprised me, especially since audiences seem to be enjoying it. I think I know why the critics aren’t impressed.

Why Critics Missed the Block on A Minecraft Movie

Only True Minecrafters Will Get the Nostalgia, Chaos, and Jack Black Shenanigans

The audience really enjoyed the movie, giving it an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – a significant difference compared to critics’ scores. This high audience score was a key sign to me that the film was being unfairly criticized, and it confirmed my own positive feelings about it, as over 10,000 viewers agreed with my assessment.

I honestly don’t get all the negativity from critics about A Minecraft Movie. I’m guessing those who didn’t like it just didn’t get it, probably because they never experienced the joy of playing Minecraft growing up. I did, though! I spent so much time building worlds with my little brother, so I really understand what makes the game special, and I think that’s key to enjoying the movie.

Having played the game as a kid, I already knew all the backstory and appreciated the funny references in the movie, which brought back a lot of fond memories. Plus, I just thought it was genuinely funny and lighthearted.

Okay, yeah, a lot of the humor was totally goofy, maybe even a bit ridiculous. But that’s what I loved about it! It reminded me so much of the crazy stuff my friends and I used to get into. And honestly, it is a Jack Black movie, so if you’re not into silly, fun stuff, I can see why some people didn’t get it.

Although many critics didn’t enjoy the movie’s wild and goofy nature, I found it to be a strong point. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but I believe fans who grew up with Minecraft really got the movie’s unique humor, which is likely why audiences gave it a solid 84% rating.
