With only a few days left until the release of Halo: Campaign Evolved, early reviews – including one from our own Chris Carter who calls it “A Master Foundation With Modern Oddities” – suggest that fans of the original Halo: Combat Evolved from 2001 will enjoy this updated version.
Our review of Halo: Campaign Evolved gave it a 7 out of 10, but it’s in a strange position because it lacks the competitive multiplayer that usually drives sales. After finishing the main campaign and the new missions, players will likely find themselves replaying content. While some Halo fans enjoy revisiting the game with different players over the years, others might prefer to wait for a price drop before jumping back in.
Halo has evolved significantly since it first came out in the early 2000s. If you’re searching for a reliable first-person shooter to play later this month, it’s worth checking out Halo: Combat Evolved.
In the meantime, however, there is another exciting Halo-themed release to look forward to courtesy of author Troy Denning. It is none other than Halo: Fireteam Noble, a brand-new entry in the ongoing Halo book franchise. Here is what the official synopsis reads:
Following Cortana’s actions and the rise of the Created, the galaxy is broken and unstable. The Banished are seizing control of what was once Covenant territory. To combat these dangers, Spartan Jun-A266, the sole survivor of Noble Team, is training a new group of Spartans at a secret UNSC base called Anvil Station, all while confronting his own troubled memories.
When a famous scientist specializing in alien artifacts is suddenly kidnapped by a group called the Banished, Jun finds herself thrust back into combat. She teams up with both familiar faces and new allies for a risky rescue operation that takes them far into enemy territory. As they fight to save the abducted scientist, Jun struggles with the weight of her past and what it means to continue the traditions of Noble Team. This mission could have huge repercussions, extending far beyond just one missing person.
Keep an eye out for Halo: Fireteam Noble, coming in 2027! While we don’t have a specific release date yet, more details – including the cover art – will be shared soon. If you’re already a Halo fan or enjoy reading tie-in novels, this is one you’ll definitely want to check out.
Troy Denning, the author, is very familiar with the Halo universe. He’s previously written several Halo novels, including Outcasts, Divine Wind, Shadows of Reach, Oblivion, Silent Storm, Retribution, and Last Light. Beyond Halo, he’s also authored popular Star Wars books and novels from the Forgotten Realms series.
