Stephen King‘s books are consistently bestsellers, meaning fans don’t usually have to wait long to see them adapted for the screen. Recently, the first season of the IT spin-off, Welcome to Derry, finished airing on HBO. In addition to renewed discussions about a Dark Tower TV series, Andy Muschietti – who directed the IT movies from the 2010s and episodes of Welcome to Derry – has shared exciting news about a combined cut of IT: Chapter One and Chapter Two. This supercut will include brand new scenes.
Director Andy Muschietti has mentioned wanting to create a supercut of ‘The Flash’ before, but progress had been slow. He said in December that being busy with the show itself had prevented him from working on it, and he hoped it would happen eventually.
A fan, @Stephenkingesp2, recently discovered a Spanish interview with director Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti, suggesting the project is more developed than previously thought. Here’s a translation, courtesy of The Direct:
Andy Muschietti: “[A] supercut is something that’s coming, and we’ll see how this series does…”
About a month ago, I was thinking about how the supercut was progressing, and Stephen King actually asked me how it was going.
Andy’s excited to combine the two films into one cohesive story. He’s planning to restructure it and include additional scenes, some of which he still needs to film. These new scenes will help connect the different parts of the story and create a smoother flow.
Barbara: “But we don’t have time, that’s the problem.”
Andy: “But I think there’s interest. I think the studio is interested in funding it. We’ll see.”
What Would an ‘IT’ Supercut Look Like?

HBO
The first IT movie is 2 hours and 15 minutes long, and the second one runs for 2 hours and 49 minutes. Combining both films would create a very lengthy movie, but dedicated fans would likely be eager to see it, particularly if it includes additional footage. This is similar to what happened last December with the release of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, which combined both Kill Bill films into one. Warner Bros., the studio behind the IT movies, has done this before. In 2021, they released Zack Snyder’s Justice League—an extended and revised cut of Justice League—on HBO Max, and fans loved it.
HBO’s series, Welcome to Derry, quickly became one of their most popular premieres, second only to The Last of Us and House of the Dragon, proving that audiences are still fascinated by the story of IT. While HBO hasn’t confirmed a second season yet, if it’s made, it could take up a significant amount of the Muschietti brothers’ time. Warner Bros. might be able to strategically release a longer version of the IT movie before full production on Welcome to Derry season 2 starts.

Both IT movies were successful, but most people agree that Chapter Two wasn’t as good as the first one. A new edit of the film could give the directors a chance to address some of the criticisms. Now, all we need is for it to be officially announced.
