As someone who loves film and TV, it’s been hard to ignore all the complicated stuff happening right now with media and the government. But one show that *never* backs down from a challenge is *South Park*. The latest season, season 27, started in July, and true to form, they’ve been tackling all sorts of controversial topics. Naturally, when the newest episode was delayed, a lot of us wondered if it was due to censorship. Thankfully, Matt Stone, one of the show’s creators, recently spoke up and reassured fans that wasn’t the case.
The latest episode of *South Park* was delayed from its original airdate last Wednesday, but it wasn’t because of any issues with its content. According to Matt Stone, who spoke with The Denver Post, the team simply needed more time to finish the episode and meet the deadline.
Look, let me be clear: nobody asked us to take the episode down, and we definitely would have said something if they had. We just… didn’t finish it in time. We always push things to the last minute, and sometimes, like this time, it bites us. That’s just what happens when you wait until the very end to get things done!
Creating episodes of *South Park* has always involved a very tight turnaround – much faster than most animated shows. Matt Stone and Trey Parker aim to address current events quickly, and the documentary *6 Days to Air: The Making Of South Park* (available on Paramount+) offers a fascinating look at this process. This season, however, things were slightly different, with episodes airing every other week instead of weekly. Even with that extra time, the team couldn’t quite finish episode five on schedule.
It’s worth noting that this is not the first time that the show has missed a deadline.
It’s easy to see why people are worried about censorship. Beyond the recent issues with *The Late Show With Stephen Colbert* being canceled and *Jimmy Kimmel Live!* being temporarily taken off the air, the second episode of *South Park*’s 27th season, “Got A Nut,” was removed from repeat broadcasts because it mentions Charlie Kirk. You can still watch it on Paramount+ though.
There aren’t any previews available yet for the next episode of *South Park*, so we don’t know what it will be about. However, it’s expected to air on September 24th at 10pm Eastern and Pacific time, as usual.
