Iron Man Director’s New Disney+ Series Won’t End With 1 Season

Disney is making changes to its streaming plans with a new project from a key Marvel director gaining traction. After a period of silence, Jon Favreau’s series featuring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is back in the news. It now appears the upcoming Disney+ show is intended to run for more than just one season.

Jon Favreau’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series to have multiple seasons

MyTimeToShineHello, a source familiar with the project, revealed that Disney+ plans to create multiple seasons of the upcoming series, ‘Oswald.’ This news came as more details about Jon Favreau’s new show were shared online.

Deadline previously reported that Jon Favreau is writing and producing a new movie for Walt Disney Studios that blends animation and live-action. The project is inspired by Walt Disney’s creation, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who first appeared in 1927 in a series of 27 animated shorts.

As a lifelong Disney fan, it’s amazing to see the story of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit! I learned that Universal actually owned Oswald way back in 1928, which is why Disney created Mickey Mouse. But under Bob Iger’s leadership, Disney made it a priority to bring Oswald home, and in 2006, they finally got the trademark back – a truly full-circle moment for the company and for fans like me!

Jon Favreau was the creative force behind The Mandalorian, serving as its creator, writer, and executive producer. The show aired on Disney+ from 2019 to 2023. He’s also an executive producer on other Star Wars series like The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. His next film, continuing the story of The Mandalorian and Grogu, is scheduled for release in May 2026.

Details about the upcoming show focusing on Oswald have been revealed. According to Daniel Richtman, the show will be short, consisting of only three episodes. It’s currently unclear if these will be released as one longer story or as a traditional miniseries. Filming has already begun, and the cast includes Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Ryder Allen, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Amy Sedaris, and Kathryn Hahn.

Jon Favreau will be writing and producing a new series for Disney+. He’s known for his work on popular projects like The Jungle Book and the hit show The Mandalorian, as well as its continuation featuring Grogu.
