A new update has been released for the latest installment in the Insidious series. The previous movie, Insidious: The Red Door, came out in 2023.
The official Insidious Movie account announced on X (formerly Twitter) that filming for Insidious 6 is complete. The post, which included a photo of a clapperboard dated November 12, 2025, said, “That’s a wrap on the next chapter of INSIDIOUS. See you in August.”
The new supernatural horror film, Insidious 6, will now be released on August 21, 2026, by Sony and Blumhouse. Originally planned for August 29, 2025, the release was delayed after a decision made in December 2024. Director Jacob Chase announced the completion of filming on Instagram, expressing his gratitude for the hard work and dedication of the cast and crew.
Patrick Wilson co-wrote the script for Insidious 6 with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who also worked on The Conjuring 2 and Orphan. David Garbett, known for his work on Evil Dead Rise, is the film’s director of photography. The sequel is produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli, James Wan, and Leigh Whannell, with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, Ryan Turek, Steven Schneider, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones serving as executive producers.
Leigh Whannell wrote and created Insidious, and James Wan directed the first movie in 2011. Since then, there have been four sequels: Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013), Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015), Insidious: The Last Key (2018), and Insidious: The Red Door (2023). The Red Door was the most successful film in the series, earning almost $190 million around the world.
The Last Insidious Update Came In September
Fans were excited to hear that Lin Shaye, who played Elise Rainier in previous films, will return for the sixth Insidious movie. Joining her is Amelia Eve, known for her role as Jamie in Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting of Bly Manor.
The original Insidious introduced viewers to the Lambert family. Their son, Dalton (Ty Simkins), falls into a coma after an accident, and his parents, Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Renai (Rose Byrne), seek help from Elise Rainier (Lin Shae). Elise discovers that Dalton can leave his body and travel to a dangerous spiritual realm called The Further, and that his spirit is currently trapped there.
Details about Insidious 6 are currently limited. While the story was originally intended to conclude with the fifth film, Sony announced in May 2024 that a sixth movie would be made. In an October 2024 interview, Leigh Whannell expressed his desire for a fresh take on the series, hoping someone will bring a new perspective to it.
Insidious 6 will hit theaters on Aug. 21, 2026.
