The upcoming movie featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu is at a crucial point, and Disney needs a solid plan to ensure it does well. This will be the first big Star Wars film in theaters since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, so there’s a lot of pressure for it to succeed. Unfortunately, the marketing efforts so far haven’t been very effective.
The latest Star Wars movie picks up the story from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, where we first met Din Djarin, a serious bounty hunter in a helmet, and Grogu, his cute alien sidekick. After three seasons of adventures on Disney+, the studio decided to try something new by bringing these characters to the big screen. However, with the movie’s release just three months away, its success isn’t guaranteed.
The upcoming movie featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu is a big gamble for Star Wars. It could be a huge success, revitalizing the franchise in theaters, or it could fall flat, potentially ending plans for The Mandalorian and other Star Wars shows to move to the big screen.
The State of The Mandalorian & Grogu’s Marketing Strategy

Disney has done a lot of marketing for The Mandalorian & Grogu, but some of it isn’t connecting with audiences.
This new film is effectively continuing the story that began in Season 4 of The Mandalorian, which presents both opportunities and challenges. Because many viewers already know and enjoy the characters from their Disney+ show, they’re likely to go see this continuation on the big screen. However, some people haven’t seen The Mandalorian or aren’t familiar with the storyline, and might feel like they need to watch the series first – or wait to stream the movie on Disney+ – which could affect how well it performs in theaters.
As a big fan, I’ve watched the full trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu (and a slightly different version too!), and I think Disney’s really nailed the feel and look of the movie. It gives you a great sense of what to expect!
The trailer is full of exciting action and familiar Star Wars sights and characters, creating a fun and adventurous feel for all ages. However, it doesn’t really show how this new movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, is different from the original The Mandalorian series, or convince viewers it deserves a cinematic release. It also doesn’t offer much information about what the story will be about.
The initial trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu sparked interest, but fans still had several months to wait for the movie to come out. Then, a preview was shown during the Super Bowl.

Instead of a fast-paced, action-packed trailer, Disney released a mood-setting teaser for the new The Mandalorian & Grogu movie during the Super Bowl. The teaser featured Din Djarin and Grogu riding in a Tauntaun-pulled wagon through the snow, with a voiceover, but didn’t offer any new details about the film’s plot.
Following the Star Wars Super Bowl ad, Lucasfilm explained that the spot was created with a special idea in mind: to highlight the heartwarming, funny, and touching relationship between the two popular characters. The ad was deliberately made to feel like memorable Super Bowl commercials from the past, offering fans a quick preview of what they can expect when the characters appear on the big screen.
Okay, so the little teaser was really smart and well-made, but honestly, it just left me wanting a full trailer already! Especially since The Mandalorian & Grogu movie is coming out in just three months – things are getting real, and we need to see more!
What Does Disney Have To Do Next To Sell The Mandalorian & Grogu?

So far, the marketing for the upcoming Mandalorian & Grogu movie has made it clear that fans can expect a continuation of the story they already enjoy from The Mandalorian. However, this might not be enough to excite viewers, especially since they’ll have to pay extra for movie tickets instead of watching it as part of their usual Disney+ subscription.
Disney needs to convince viewers that The Mandalorian & Grogu is worth experiencing in a movie theater. They need to demonstrate it’s a truly special event that demands to be seen on the big screen.
It’s common for movie trailers and ads to reveal too much, but The Mandalorian & Grogu is facing a different issue: not enough information is being shared. Currently, audiences are largely in the dark about key details – like who the villain is, what Mando and Grogu are trying to achieve, and even the role of new cast member Sigourney Weaver. Releasing even a few basic plot points and character details would generate more excitement for the film right now.
The upcoming marketing for The Mandalorian & Grogu is incredibly important. We can expect at least one more trailer in the next few months that will hopefully give us a better idea of what the movie is about. Plus, Disney will likely use the usual methods – like press interviews and red carpet events with stars like Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver – to get fans excited about seeing The Mandalorian on the big screen.
This movie is incredibly important. There’s talk that if The Mandalorian & Grogu is a success, it could lead to a brand new series of Star Wars films from Lucasfilm.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I’m really worried about what’s at stake with The Mandalorian & Grogu movie. It’s not just about whether this film succeeds; the future of other potential Star Wars series depends on it too. There’s been talk for ages about a big crossover movie bringing together the stories from Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and even Star Wars: Rebels, but recently it feels like that project is in jeopardy. If The Mandalorian & Grogu doesn’t perform well in theaters, it could effectively kill off any plans for those TV shows to ever make it to the big screen – including that awesome MandoVerse movie we’ve all been hoping for.
With the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu on May 22nd approaching, Disney needs to focus on a strong final push to attract viewers.
