I’m Disappointed Aaron Paul Is Leaving Invincible Ahead Of Season 4, But I Understand His Reason

The latest episodes of Invincible Season 3 were incredibly shocking, and despite being tough to watch, they’ve really built excitement for Season 4. However, ahead of the premiere in March 2026, news has surfaced that Aaron Paul won’t be returning to voice the character Powerplex, though his reasons for leaving are understandable.

Paul, the voice actor behind the vengeful villain in Invincible Season 3, recently announced he’s leaving the Prime Video show. He shared the news during an interview on the Kinda Funny Gamescast, explaining it was a difficult decision, as reported by Comicbook.com. Paul stated:

I was asked to return for another season, and while I’m a huge fan of the show, it was incredibly draining emotionally. The role, especially playing a character like Powerplex who deals with a lot of inner conflict, really took a toll on me. I fully immerse myself in my characters, and this one was a difficult fit – I just didn’t feel comfortable continuing. I have a lot of respect for everyone involved, but the experience wasn’t healthy for me, and I couldn’t go on.

It looks like Robert Kirkman’s hope to reunite with Bryan Cranston, similar to their work on Breaking Bad, won’t be happening. While it’s disappointing that Aaron Paul is leaving his role as Powerplex, it’s good he prioritized his well-being. Invincible has a strong cast and is popular enough that they’ll easily find someone new to take over the part.

More On Invincible

Invincible Season 3 Pulled A Fast One On Me, And I Don’t Know How To Feel About It

Powerplex is definitely one of the most heartbreaking characters in Invincible. He accidentally caused the deaths of his wife and child, and while it’s unfair to fully blame Mark Grayson, many characters within the show feel that way by the end of Season 3. I’m really curious to see where his story goes in the new season, and if it will be as emotionally powerful as Paul’s performance in Season 3.

The third season of the Kirkman show ended with intense destruction, as powerful beings from other dimensions destroyed multiple cities. Immediately after, Mark Grayson had to confront the Viltrumite invasion. He narrowly won, but the victory was short-lived. The finale suggested new dangers are on the horizon, and the Viltrumites still intend to conquer Earth.

It seems Omni-Man is working off-planet with Allen the Alien to fight the Viltrumites, which means Mark won’t have to face them by himself. Back on Earth, heroes like Atom Eve, who was seriously injured in the final battle, are still fighting. Hopefully, they’re strong enough to protect the world from the dangers that are coming, including the potential threat of Powerplex.
