If Only One Reacher Character Returns In Season 4, Let It Be This Guy

Alan Ritchson is coming back as Reacher for another season on Prime Video, and he’ll be tackling a new mystery. Maria Sten is likely to reprise her role as Neagley, and Sydelle Noel will join the cast as Tamara Green, who will work alongside Reacher as a fellow investigator and potential love interest.

It’s likely we haven’t seen the last of Jack Reacher’s helpers. In season two, Malcolm Goodwin made a valuable return as Oscar Finlay, assisting with a key investigation. As the Prime Video series continues, Reacher seems to be building a wider network of friends. While it’s currently unconfirmed whether season four will feature any returning characters, if only one face from the past appears, Oscar Finlay should definitely be it.

Please, Reacher, Bring David O’Donnell Back In Season 4

Each member of Reacher’s former team, the 110th Special Investigators, brought something unique to the group in season two. Dixon was a past love interest who could potentially soften Reacher, while Neagley acted as a close, sisterly confidante. David O’Donnell, though, was the relatable, down-to-earth member of a team often filled with extraordinary individuals.

Each season of Reacher benefits from a character like this, and in season 3, Villanueva filled that role well. However, O’Donnell brings something new to the table. He’s the only one who understands Reacher’s unusual behavior and tendency to find trouble, yet remains level-headed enough to playfully point out how absurd Reacher’s world can be.

Finlay and Villy mostly stared at Reacher as if he were a complete stranger. However, O’Donnell gets Reacher – he understands Reacher is different, and that makes him a great stand-in for how the reader experiences the story.

O’Donnell consistently raises the tension in any scene. While you can be sure Reacher and Neagley will survive a fight, O’Donnell – with his family and relaxed personality – always feels vulnerable. His warmth and humor make him a likable character, so the possibility of him getting hurt created genuinely nerve-wracking moments in season 2 of Reacher.

O’Donnell is a great match for Jack Reacher. He’s a friend, a source of humor, and a tough fighter, bringing a lot to the dynamic that other characters don’t. It’s also refreshing to see Reacher work with someone who isn’t a romantic interest.

O’Donnell Could Be Neagley’s Replacement In Reacher Season 4

Frances Neagley, a popular character from the Jack Reacher stories, is getting her own Prime Video series, planned for release in 2026 before the fourth season of Reacher. It’s likely the show will limit how much Neagley appears in future Reacher seasons. Having a whole series focused on her, and then featuring her prominently in Reacher as well, wouldn’t make much sense.

O’Donnell would be a perfect fit as Reacher’s reliable ally – someone he can always count on for help. While Reacher could contact Dixon or Roscoe, that might create awkwardness with his current relationship. He already used Finlay in a guest appearance last season. Susan is a possibility, but they’ve only recently teamed up, making her return feel too soon.

O’Donnell isn’t just the best choice for the role; he also makes the most sense. Given that he lives in Washington D.C. and the next season of Reacher is based in New York, a collaboration between them feels very likely. At the end of season 2, Neagley encouraged Reacher to work more closely with other investigators, and his comment about “visiting family” suggested he was starting to consider that. Season 4 would be the perfect opportunity for Reacher to demonstrate that he’s taken her advice.
