Mickey Rourke is known for being unpredictable, and recent news is no exception. The Oscar-nominated actor has reportedly been struggling financially and was facing possible eviction until his manager quickly booked him a hotel room in Los Angeles. His manager, Kimberly Hines, also created a GoFundMe to ask fans for support, claiming Rourke approved the campaign. However, that claim is now being questioned.
The Iron Man 2 vet posted a video to Instagram, complete with a signature cowboy hat atop his head, where he addressed the GoFundMe efforts by claiming he had nothing to do with getting it started. Not only does he have zero interest in taking money from fans, but he’d rather defile himself with a weapon than go that route. Here’s how he put it:
I’m really upset and confused because someone created a charitable fund in my name without my knowledge or consent. I would never ask for charity – I’d do almost anything else first. I have no idea who did this or why, and I honestly don’t even know what a GoFundMe is. It’s really strange and frustrating.
Watching the video, it’s immediately obvious Mickey Rourke isn’t really up to speed on how crowdfunding sites work. You can even hear a dog barking throughout the whole thing! He definitely knows how he feels about them, though – he’s just not a fan of asking people for money that way, at least not for himself. It’s pretty straightforward, really.
Rourke stated he wouldn’t accept any charitable donations, using strong language to emphasize his point. He asked his supporters to request refunds from GoFundMe – jokingly mentioning people sending checks – and confirmed he wouldn’t take any of the money, even though the campaign quickly surpassed its $100,000 goal in under two days.
He admitted he was responsible for the current situation, acknowledging his own mistakes and not blaming his manager.
Honestly, looking back, I really messed up my career for a while there. I wasn’t always the easiest person to work with, and it took me over two decades of therapy to deal with the fallout from some past issues. I’ve done a lot of work on myself, and I’m definitely not that same person anymore. But don’t just take my word for it – ask the people I’ve collaborated with recently. Talk to Robert Rodriguez, Francis Coppola, or Darren Aronofsky. I’ve grown a lot since my younger, more impulsive days, but you always have to live with the consequences of your past actions.
Okay, so watching this video, the biggest thing with Mickey Rourke is he’s adamant he didn’t ask for any of this GoFundMe money. He genuinely seems confused about how it even started, saying he has no clue who launched the campaign. It’s a pretty direct contradiction to what his manager has been telling people, which makes the whole situation even stranger. It really feels like there’s a disconnect somewhere, and Rourke seems legitimately unaware of the fundraising efforts happening on his behalf.
Mickey Rourke’s Manager Claims He Approved The GoFundMe Plan
Kimberly Hines revealed to THR that she and her assistant came up with the plan to ask the public for assistance, even though her client insisted he knew nothing about it. Hines says Ron Perlman approved the idea, but admits he might not have fully understood what he was agreeing to. According to Hines:
We were surprised by how quickly the GoFundMe campaign gained attention. We initially thought it would just be a small effort to help Mickey, and Dima, his assistant and I agreed it could be beneficial. We told Mickey people were offering support, and he simply said okay. I don’t think he realized how much attention it would get, and now that it’s become a media sensation, he’s understandably upset.
Hines explained that the GoFundMe campaign was created with good intentions to help the actor cover moving and hotel costs after he faced potential eviction, especially since work opportunities had slowed down. She expressed disappointment with his public reaction but firmly stated that no one was trying to take advantage of him.
Even with his negative response, though, Hines pointed out the huge silver lining, saying:
He’s suddenly getting a lot of attention from filmmakers! Since yesterday, he’s received four movie offers, and people are now emailing him opportunities – which is fantastic, as he hadn’t received any calls for a while.
Mickey Rourke’s career has seen several revivals thanks to key roles, so it’s quite possible he could experience another one. A part in Season 3 of Taylor Sheridan’s Landman, a return as his Marvel villain Whiplash in the new Avengers: Doomsday movie, or even a similar high-profile opportunity could quickly bring him back into the spotlight. Perhaps revisiting his role as the villain in MacGruber could also do the trick.
He was removed from Celebrity Big Brother UK in early 2025 after producers ejected him for making offensive and homophobic remarks to JoJo Siwa. He later claimed he was simply trying to be friendly.
Rourke’s Instagram post was very popular with his fans, and even attracted comments from several celebrities, as shown below:
- FRANK GRILLO: brotha man you look good and sound better. you’re loved all over the world. happy new year and let this bullshit pass. ❤️🙏🥊
- LIKA O: Mickey, I love you!! One of the most amazing people I’ve met!!! Happy New year ❤️ thank you for staying real! 🙏
