Ice Cube Explains Anaconda Return: “I Jumped At It”

Ice Cube is making a nostalgic return to the world of Anaconda.

Almost 30 years after starring in the 1997 action movie Anaconda, Ice Cube surprised and pleased fans by showing up at the Los Angeles premiere of the new film. He told People magazine that his brief appearance felt like things had come “full circle,” both for him personally and for his character, Danny Rich.

Ice Cube immediately agreed to be in Anaconda after hearing about the project. He was excited by how the new film differed from the first one, finding it a fresh take on the story, and was glad to be involved. He also appreciated the opportunity to complete his storyline with a cameo appearance.

I was really excited to make a cameo – it felt like a nice way to come full circle with the project. As soon as I heard about the movie, I immediately said yes. It was a unique and fun opportunity.

The actor believes audiences, both longtime fans and new viewers, will be thrilled to see his character, Danny, return to the screen. He said, “I think people will enjoy seeing me make an appearance.”

The new comedy, Anaconda, isn’t a remake of the original. Instead, it follows two longtime friends – Griff (Paul Rudd), a struggling actor, and Doug (Jack Black), a wedding videographer – who decide to recreate the 1997 film as a way to cope with their midlife crises. Their ambitious project takes them to the Amazon rainforest, where they face real dangers from the local wildlife.

The movie boasts a huge cast, including stars alongside Jack Black, Paul Rudd, and Ice Cube. Steve Zahn will play Kenny Trent, Thandiwe Newton will be Claire Simons, Daniela Melchior will play Ana Almeida, Selton Mello will be Santiago Braga, and Ione Skye will play Malie McCallister. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Lawson will also appear as themselves.

Anaconda will premiere in theaters on Christmas Day, December 25. 2025.
