‘I Know People Might Think It’s Awkward’: Zendaya Reveals What It’s Really Like Working With Fiancé Tom Holland

Tom Holland and Zendaya first met while filming Spider-Man: Homecoming, and their working relationship eventually turned into a romance. They publicly confirmed their relationship in November 2021, and announced their engagement in December 2024. Despite being engaged, they continue to work together, and Zendaya recently shared her experience of collaborating professionally with her fiancé.

I’m so excited for the upcoming movies! Tom Holland and Zendaya are going to be in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey in 2026, which means they’ll have done five movies together now, if you include Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home. You know, some couples might not want to work together, but Zendaya has always said the sweetest things about acting with Tom. She recently told The Mirror:

I know some people might find it strange, but he’s genuinely the best person I’ve ever worked with. He has a really calming effect on set, which makes me – and everyone else – feel much more relaxed. I might be a little biased, but he’s not just my favorite person, he’s my favorite colleague.

That really does seem like a beautiful relationship! While some couples prefer to keep work and personal life separate, Zendaya actually enjoys working with Tom Holland. He’s a fantastic actor to share scenes with and helps her feel more at ease on set. Plus, since Zendaya’s character, MJ, is so central to the story of Spider-Man in the Marvel movies, it’s lucky they have such a good working relationship – and it makes things easier for future films!

Zendaya believes the secret to her and Tom Holland’s successful working relationship, even while dating, is finding a good balance. She explained that…

We both want to live normal lives – things like going out to eat – without feeling like we have to hide. However, we also value our privacy. It’s realistic to admit some privacy will always be beyond our control, but we’re very protective of the parts we can control.

I’m really glad to hear they’ve managed to balance their personal and professional lives, and I’m hoping that continues even after they get married! With the details of the new Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day, still secret, it’s hard to say how big Zendaya’s role will be, especially since her character lost her memories of Peter Parker in No Way Home. And then there’s The Odyssey – it’s fascinating that Tom Holland is playing Telemachus, son of Matt Damon’s Odysseus, and Zendaya is Athena. Depending on how Christopher Nolan decides to interpret the story, we might not even see Tom and Zendaya share any scenes together in that one, which would be a shame!

Both The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day are coming out this July. The Odyssey premieres on July 17th, and Spider-Man follows on July 31st. That means fans will get to see Tom Holland and Zendaya together twice in quick succession, both in the movies and while they’re promoting them, and we can expect some charming interactions!
