I Knew Alan Ritchson Was Tall, But I Didn’t Really Realize How Tall Until Seeing His Awkward Workout Post

Over the course of three seasons of “Reacher”, Alan Ritchson has been involved in thrilling car chases, gruesome shootouts, and intense hand-to-hand combat scenes, with his character, the former military drifter, emerging victorious every time. His impressive height in the role further underscores why he was chosen for it, as it had previously been filled by Tom Cruise, nicknamed “Shortstack”. It’s easy to overlook just how tall Ritchson is, but his amusingly awkward workout photo serves as a humorous reminder of his stature.

Production for Reacher Season 4 is underway and won’t appear on our TV screens until beyond 2025, but fans remain optimistic that the upcoming spinoff Neagley will premiere before 2026. Until then, we can only enjoy posts like this one from Alan Ritchson, where he seems to have a bit of a problem with his hotel gym.” (You can read Maria Sten’s recent comments about it.)

It seems that the veteran Titan had difficulty standing upright without shoes, let alone when wearing shoes and climbing onto fitness equipment. The slimmest treadmill might still leave Ritchson bumping his head on the gym’s high ceiling.

The text overlaid on the video, “Hotel gyms are like this,” suggests that Ritchson likely wasn’t working out in a hotel gym for the first time, as he often found himself having to adjust his neck at awkward angles to exercise. It’s somewhat funny to imagine there might be numerous hotels across the nation (or even the globe) with ceiling marks from the actor’s sweaty head knocking against them during his workouts.

Perhaps in Reacher Season 4, he might confront architects and builders for constructing gym facilities in hotels that are too short for him. It’s not an ideal application of his physical prowess, but it could still lead to some interesting situations.

In Season 3, they emphasized the towering figure of one character, Paulie, played by Olivier Richters, who stood at an intimidating 7 feet 2 inches. This made for some impressive confrontations with Ritchson’s character. Therefore, I don’t anticipate the creative team trying to outdo this by hiring a taller actor, such as one who is 7’5″. Instead, it seems possible that we might see a villain of more modest height in the upcoming season.

For Season 4, Reacher will travel to Philadelphia. He’s previously hinted that this season will be so thrilling that viewers might want to ensure their heart health from excessive excitement. In fact, he sustained a black eye during the initial filming period. I wouldn’t want to face the other character, but I must admit, if the other guy is a low-lying hotel gym ceiling, it’s not exactly who I’d prefer to tussle with.

In case you ever find yourself daydreaming, or lost in thought, there’s a chance you’ll spot Alan Ritchson’s face appearing too. Interestingly enough, he’ll be seen kneeling down in that instance.
