I Can’t Get Enough Of That Time Someone Filled Tom Cruise In On What ‘A Tom Cruise Meme’ Was Mid-Interview

There’s almost nothing funnier than a really good meme, except maybe seeing the person in the meme react to it. I was thrilled to come across an old interview of Tom Cruise seeing some hilarious memes based on his Mission: Impossible films – it’s been making the rounds online!

Let’s rewind to 2017. Tom Cruise had two movies come out that year – The Mummy and American Made – and he did an interview with the BBC to talk about them. But what’s really relevant here is that Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation had been released two years earlier. That gave the internet plenty of time to turn the iconic scene of Cruise clinging to a plane into a popular meme.

Tom Cruise got a real kick out of all the memes, too, as you can see in the interview below:

Around 2 minutes and 28 seconds into the video, interviewer Ali Plumb asked Tom Cruise if he knew about the popular meme of him hanging off of things. Cruise hadn’t heard of it, but he seemed amused to learn about it.

I thought it was hilarious that the first meme Tom Cruise saw was of him clinging to Free Willy’s tail as the whale jumped. It was a funny way to start, because things quickly got even stranger. After that, there was a picture of four Tom Cruises holding onto a leaping cat, and another of him desperately hanging onto Darth Maul. But the funniest one was definitely Tom Cruise dangling off of Nicolas Cage’s face.

What’s really cool is that the scene this meme comes from is in one of the greatest Mission: Impossible films, Rogue Nation. Every time I watch that M:I movie again, I’m amazed by the stunt and the fact that Tom Cruise actually did it – hanging off a plane!

This clip is especially funny because it gets even better with time. Since it was made in 2017, three more Mission: Impossible movies have come out, including the upcoming The Final Reckoning scheduled for release in 2025. With each new film, Tom Cruise’s stunts become increasingly daring – he keeps surprising everyone by doing things like motorcycle jumps off cliffs and navigating between planes in flight. Seeing those incredible feats alongside silly memes is what I find truly hilarious.

Clearly, it cracks the people of the internet up, too, because despite this interview being very old, it resurfaced on Instagram this year. It went viral too, with the repost from FBOY PROBLEMS garnering over 57.5 thousand likes. So, it’s pretty obvious that fans also find the “Tom Cruise clining off things meme” just as funny as Tom Cruise does.

Honestly, it just made my day seeing how much Tom Cruise loved all the memes about him! It was so fun. Now I’m definitely going to rewatch Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation – I just signed up for Paramount+ to do it, and you should join me! It’s a great movie.
