Glen Powell, Lee Pace, and Josh Brolin are all enjoying successful careers, especially with the upcoming release of The Running Man in 2025. But Glen Powell seems to be the most occupied – he’s juggling multiple acting roles and currently attending college. His co-stars were surprised to learn about his enrollment, and were quite shocked to find out he was going to school at the same time.
While promoting their new film, The Running Man, actors Adam Powell, Joel Pace, and Maria Brolin played a ‘get to know each other’ game with Variety magazine. During the game, they were asked about Glen Powell’s college major. It seemed Powell and his co-stars didn’t realize the question was about his current major. After it was revealed that Powell had changed his major from economics to radio, television, and film and that he attended the University of Texas, he then asked a follow-up question.
Hey, you guys want to come to my graduation?
Josh Brolin jokingly wondered if his co-star was actually earning his degree or receiving an honorary one. It’s common for actors to receive honorary degrees, so it was a natural question. However, Powell is graduating with a legitimate degree, and their playful exchange confirmed it.
- Josh Brolin: Are you serious?
- Glen Powell: Yeah, spring of ’27.
- Josh Brolin: Are you serious?
- Glen Powell: I’m serious.
- Josh Brolin: Do you have enough credits or are they honoring you?
- Glen Powell: No, no. I have enough. I’m finishing properly. I’m not doing the honorary degree.
Everyone was really surprised to hear this. It was hard to believe the Twisters actor was managing to attend school on top of having a demanding acting career. I especially enjoyed Lee Pace’s reaction when he found out, and he said:
How many hours are you getting out of the day? I’m only getting 24 hours.
I’m wondering the same thing. But it feels more significant coming from actors like Lee Pace and Josh Brolin, who are both incredibly productive. Just this year, Pace finished Season 3 of Foundation and the film After This Death, and he recently wrapped up Practical Magic 2. Brolin released Weapons to positive reviews and has another film, Wake Up Dead Man, coming out this month. So, they clearly know how to manage a lot of work, but Glen Powell seems to be on a whole other level of busy.
Glen Powell has had a busy year! He’s releasing Chad Powers on Hulu and The Running Man in theaters in 2025, and he’s also been filming a new movie called Ghostwriter with Jenna Ortega, directed by J.J. Abrams. All of this is happening while he’s also finishing his college degree, which surprised his fellow actors during a recent conversation.
- Glen Powell: I’m taking six credits a semester. So, I will finish in spring ’27.
- Josh Brolin: Wait, you’re taking six credits a semester for every semester?
- Glen Powell: Right now. Like I’m taking it right now.
- Lee Pace: You’re doing it right now? You’re the busiest person I know.
- Glen Powell: I am enrolled at the University of Texas right now. Yeah, it’s been nuts.
As a movie buff, I was really surprised to hear Glen Powell is still in college! Six credits is usually about two classes, which doesn’t sound like too much for someone with a job. But considering how in-demand and busy he is as an actor, juggling a degree while becoming a leading man is pretty incredible.
Josh Brolin was completely stunned and didn’t know what to say, and the conversation concluded with him and Powell simply stating:
- Josh Brolin: I don’t even know how to react to that.
- Glen Powell: I’ll throw a graduation party if you guys want to tear it up in Austin.
- Josh Brolin: Absolutely, man.
Glen Powell is aiming to finish school in the spring of 2027, so hopefully Josh Brolin and Lee Pace can save the date!
It won’t be long before more people—both fans and those who work with him—discover that Glen Powell is dedicated not only to his acting career, but also to his studies.
