I Asked Logan Lerman How Long He Was Handcuffed To A Bed For His New Dark Comedy Oh, Hi!, And His Answer Is So Wild To Me

If you enjoy heartwarming romantic comedies with an unexpected twist, I wholeheartedly suggest you check out “Oh, Hi!“, slated for release in 2025. The film stars Logan Lerman and offers a unique take on the genre, as his character spends most of the time handcuffed to a bed in its entirety. During our interview, I was curious about his experience and asked him directly about the duration he was actually handcuffed to a bed during filming. His response left me utterly astonished.

The film, jointly penned by Molly Gordon of “The Bear” fame (who boasts an impressive filmography), narrates the tale of a duo, Iris and Isaac (portrayed by Gordon and Lerman respectively). This pair embarks on a love-filled retreat to a secluded cabin. Their intimate moments take an unexpected turn as Isaac finds himself in handcuffs. However, when he shares a disturbing revelation about their bond with Iris, she elects to restrain him further, tethering him to the bed. Here’s what Lerman shared about his on-set experience with handcuffs:

It seems like the total time spent in bed, restrained, might have been approximately 100 hours, with many days consisting of around 10 hours or more. However, it could be slightly less than that, maybe even a few hours fewer, so let’s say we’re looking at roughly 100 hours of this experience, which was enjoyable overall.

Molly Gordon noted that it had been quite a while and gave off “imprisonment-like” feelings, yet surprisingly, Lerman seemed eager to participate. Initially, I assumed he wouldn’t have been restrained for an extended period, but I’m taken aback by his dedication.

As a movie critic, let me share my thoughts: “Hello there! ‘Oh, Hi!’ is an entertaining flick that brilliantly portrays the predicament of mismatched expectations in dating. The main character, Iris, assumes they’re in a relationship, while Isaac clarifies his intentions – he’s not seeking anything serious. Well, let’s just say things take a ‘Misery’-like turn for Isaac as Iris becomes quite persistent.

During our chat, it was mentioned that a significant challenge the actor faced was the inability to use his hands while communicating. He elaborated on this point by saying:

In the interview, we touched upon the fact that the actor struggled with not being able to use his hands when speaking. He further clarified this issue by explaining:

It was challenging for me since I often express myself through gestures. I can’t deny that I’m prone to this habit quite frequently… Indeed, I am one of those people who uses a lot of hand movements when speaking. However, it posed some limitations. I had to adapt and modify my performance within these constraints. Yet, it was an enriching experience as an actor because it forced me to focus more on my dialogue and delivery.

It really did work, too, and helped make the movie.

Following Molly Gordon’s achievement of exposing theater enthusiasts through the production of Theater Camp in 2023, I eagerly anticipated her future projects as a filmmaker. In the interim between her work on The Bear, which is set to return for its fifth season, she partnered with Sophie Brooks to create the dark comedy Oh, Hi!.

Find out whether Isaac, played by Logan Lerman, manages to free himself from the handcuffs when the movie “Oh, Hi!” premieres in theaters on July 25th.
