I’ve been a huge fan of Gareth Evans ever since I first saw The Raid when I was in college, and I’ve enjoyed everything he’s made, whether it’s thrilling crime films or the Gangs of London series. While it seems like The Raid 3 isn’t going to happen, this incredibly creative director-responsible for some of the best action movies ever made-is releasing a new drama called A Colt Is My Passport. Having watched all of Evans’ work over the years, I’m really excited to see what he does next.
I was incredibly excited when I first learned about A Colt Is My Passport, which is a remake of the 1967 Japanese noir film with the same title. After taking some time to calm down and research the project, I’ve gathered a lot of information to share. Here’s an overview of what we know about this upcoming action movie…
What Is A Colt Is My Passport’s Release Date?
I wish I could tell you when A Colt Is My Passport will be released, but Amazon MGM Studios, the distributor, hasn’t announced a date yet for Gareth Evans’ sequel to Havoc. Considering there aren’t many months left in the 2025 movie schedule, I doubt it will come out this year. However, I’m feeling a bit more hopeful that we’ll see it within the next year. Still, it wouldn’t be shocking if it ended up being released towards the end of the 2026 movie schedule.
It’s also important to think about how the movie will be released. Will it play in many theaters, or will it be available only on streaming, like some recent films from Amazon MGM Studios that you can watch with an Amazon subscription? We’ll find out… Stay tuned!
Who Will Lead A Colt Is My Passport’s Cast?

Gareth Evans has collaborated with a wide range of talent in the past, including Iko Uwais, Tom Hardy, Joe Taslim, and Dan Stevens. For his new project, A Colt Is My Passport, Evans is assembling a fresh cast featuring up-and-coming actors, established Hollywood stars, and a familiar face from his hit series, Gangs of London.
In September 2025, Deadline reported that Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù will star in A Colt Is My Passport, likely playing the central character, Colt. Dìrísù is a versatile actor, well-known for his work in The Gorge, Black Rabbit, and a highly-regarded episode of Black Mirror titled “Nosedive”. He’s proven himself capable in a variety of roles.
Joining Dìrísù in the cast are Tim Roth, Jack Reynor, Lucy Boynton, Victor Alli, Ewan Mitchell, Burn Gorman, and Noah Taylor. Currently, the details of their characters haven’t been revealed. We can expect to learn more about their roles in the coming weeks and months.
What Is A Colt Is My Passport About?

The original A Colt Is My Passport, adapted from Shinji Fujihara’s novel Tabosha, was a tough, realistic crime movie inspired by film noir. It told the story of a hardened assassin who found himself stuck between two competing criminal groups. The upcoming remake will take inspiration from the 1967 yakuza film, but it appears it will also significantly alter the plot and location.
Back in September 2025, Deadline first reported on the movie, sharing that this new crime thriller will follow a Vietnam War veteran. He works as a hired killer in 1970s Detroit, and his world is shaken up when he eliminates a powerful figure in the city’s criminal scene. I’m really excited to see what happens next…
A Colt Is My Passport Was Adapted By Evans’ Frequent Collaborator, Chris Webb

The Deadline article also revealed that Chris Webb, a frequent collaborator with Gareth Evans, wrote the screenplay for A Colt Is My Passport. Webb’s previous work includes films such as Havoc and Apostle, and he also contributed to the Gangs of London television series.
I’ve always loved his work, and it’s really cool that he’s now stepping into the role of a screenwriter! Even though he’s been an action or stunt coordinator on all his previous projects – and I’ve always appreciated that side of his talent – it’ll be fascinating to see what he comes up with as the person *writing* the story. And it’s interesting to note that this is actually the first movie of his that he didn’t write the script for himself. Pretty exciting! Can’t wait to see it!
Production On A Colt Is My Passport Has Already Wrapped

Something else worth mentioning about A Colt Is My Passport is that filming has already finished. In September 2025, Deadline announced that Gareth Evans’ newest movie had been filmed in secret, calling it a low-profile project. The report stated that filming occurred at Great Point Studios in Cardiff and around South Wales, but the length of the shoot remains unknown.
Like with Evans’ previous projects, we can expect to see some behind-the-scenes content from filming – and even the editing process – soon. It should be quite interesting to watch.
Gareth Evans Has Posted About The Original A Colt Is My Passport Multiple Times In The Past

Anyone who follows Gareth Evans on Instagram knows that he likes to post about two things: 1) behind-the-scenes footage from the making of his movies, and 2) Blu-ray covers and posters for whatever movie he’s into at the time. Well, if you go a few years back into his feed, you’ll see his love for A Colt Is My Passport, and possibly some hints that he’s wanted to make this for some time.
In September 2022, Evans made a post where he showed off a framed copy of the poster from the original film that was gifted to him. A few months later, in December 2022, Evans made another post, this time with a copy of the Criterion Collection edition of the 1967 crime saga with a caption saying he’d “lost count how many times” he’d watched the movie at that point.
