Romance is making a comeback, and Ryan Murphy’s recent series is a huge hit worldwide. The show’s popularity on social media, along with strong viewership numbers – especially for the finale – clearly show that audiences are eager to see more romantic stories on screen.
FX’s limited series achieved record streaming numbers on both Disney+ and Hulu, becoming its most-watched ever. Releasing episodes weekly helped build audience engagement for the story of the couple at the heart of the show. The final episode, “Search and Recovery,” saw a massive 90% increase in viewers compared to the premiere, though specific numbers haven’t been released. This jump in viewership is considered a significant achievement.
Despite finishing its run nearly two weeks ago, Love Story is still incredibly popular. As of April 7th, it ranked fourth globally on Disney+ and was the number one show on Amazon worldwide. It also saw a boost on Hulu in the U.S., climbing from 11th to 8th place between April 6th and 7th. This makes Ryan Murphy’s latest series a huge success across multiple streaming platforms.
Love Story Follows One of the Most Prominent Couples of the 20th Century Americana
Featuring Paul Anthony Kelly as John F. Kennedy Jr. and Sarah Pidgeon as Carolyn Bessette, Love Story tells the tale of their passionate, but brief, relationship. In 1992, Carolyn was a driven sales associate at Calvin Klein, and she quickly began to advance within the company.
While John F. Kennedy Jr. was finding his footing in his career, feeling the weight of his family’s name, he met Bessette through a mutual acquaintance, Calvin Klein. They were introduced at a movie premiere, and Kennedy later stopped by Bessette’s workplace for a suit fitting.
Their connection was instant, quickly blossoming into a very public romance that proved challenging for Bessette to navigate under the constant watch of the media. The show depicted a dramatized version of their relationship, leading up to the tragic plane crash in 1999, which was piloted by Kennedy. Sadly, the crash took the lives of Bessette, Kennedy, and Lauren, Carolyn’s sister.
Love Story’s Finale Also Brought New Interest in the Late Couple
The final episode of Love Story showed everything that happened before the crash and the last moments of the three main characters. While fans were anticipating the heartbreaking ending, the finale also brought in a lot of new viewers. The show has now been viewed over 14 million times on Hulu, Disney+, and FX.
There’s been a recent surge of interest in John F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Bessette, and a broader fascination with the Kennedy family’s history. Social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram are filled with discussions about their lives – both the tragic details and their memorable style. This renewed attention has also benefited businesses connected to the couple, including restaurants they used to visit and the brands Carolyn favored.
Disney reports that online searches for John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette have increased dramatically – by over 9100% – since the release of the docuseries Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. Given Ryan Murphy’s tendency to combine fact and fiction, it’s understandable that people are seeking more information. The show is already having a huge cultural impact in 2026, and this interest will likely continue, drawing in even more viewers to what’s become another successful project for Murphy.
Similar to the true crime series Monster, Love Story will also be an anthology, featuring different subjects in each installment. While the specific stories haven’t been revealed, the creator, Connor Hines, has hinted at the themes. Given the recent attention on Elizabeth Taylor – sparked by Taylor Swift’s new song, “Elizabeth Taylor,” from The Life of a Showgirl – she and her story seem like a perfect fit for the series.
You can now watch all episodes of Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette on Hulu and Disney+.
