Hugh Dancy’s Will Graham Role In Potential Silence of the Lambs Series Revealed

Bryan Fuller has shared whether Hugh Dancy might return as his character, Will Graham, if they remake The Silence of the Lambs. Fuller is known for Hannibal, a highly praised series that acted as a prequel to the Hannibal Lecter story and gained a dedicated fanbase over its three seasons.

The show was canceled by NBC due to low viewership, but fans have been asking for it to return for the past ten years.

There’s a chance fans could see a TV version of The Silence of the Lambs – and Hugh Dancy might be part of it. That’s if showrunner Bryan Fuller’s plans work out, according to him.

On the Discourse podcast, Fuller mentioned he’s still working to secure the rights to The Silence of the Lambs, noting that it’s become “a bit more complicated” recently.

He’s currently working on resolving these problems, so we can’t share any news at this time. Right now, his big project is just something he’s hoping to make happen.

The details regarding the rights are still being finalized. We’re working through them, but haven’t reached a complete agreement yet. It’s something we’re hoping to achieve.

Director Michael Fuller hopes to bring back the original cast of Hannibal for a remake. That includes Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal Lecter and Laurence Fishburne as Jack Crawford. He envisions Zendaya taking on the role of Clarice Starling, famously played by Jodie Foster in the 1991 film with Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Lecter.

As a huge fan of both Hannibal and The Silence of the Lambs, I was really intrigued to hear about Fuller wanting to bring Laurence Fishburne’s Jack Crawford back. It’s funny, Will Graham’s actor, Hugh Dancy, isn’t even in the original movie, only talked about. So, to make it work, Fuller would definitely have to play with the story a bit. But honestly, that’s the beauty of a TV series – he has so much more room to really dive into these characters and their complexities, far beyond what either the book or the film could manage.

Fuller recently ran into Dancy and Mikkelsen while watching his new film, Dust Bunny. Seeing them together reminded everyone of their fun experiences working on Hannibal.

Fuller believes Dancy and Will are essential to his story and can’t picture it without them, just as he feels Mikkelsen perfectly embodies Hannibal Lecter. He wouldn’t cast anyone else in the role.

It’s hard to picture anyone else playing those roles or replacing those two actors. I had a great time with Hugh and Mads last night before the movie, and it was clear how close they are. It made me realize we absolutely need to work with them together again.

Besides appearing in three seasons of Hannibal, the character Will Graham originated in Thomas Harris’s novel Red Dragon, which first introduced the world to Hannibal Lecter—even before The Silence of the Lambs was written. Red Dragon was adapted into two films: Manhunter in 1986 and Red Dragon in 2002, with William Petersen and Edward Norton portraying Will in each, respectively.

Following the cancellation of Hannibal, Bryan Fuller has worked on several other shows, like American Gods, Star Trek: Discovery, and Predator: Badlands. He’s currently involved with Dust Bunny, but he still remains connected to the thriller series Hannibal that gained a dedicated following in 2013.

The timing of resolving the rights issues is uncertain, but if Fuller is able to reboot The Silence of the Lambs, fans of Hannibal will undoubtedly be thrilled to see the show return to television.
