In simpler terms, let’s talk candidly about the ongoing season of “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” which is currently scheduled for 2025 TV broadcast. Previously, I wasn’t a fan of how “We’ll Always Have Summer” portrayed Belly and Jeremiah’s relationship. However, after watching the first two episodes of Season 3, I’m excited to share that the series has addressed my major concern from the book in a way that left me utterly astonished.

The primary concern I have regarding “We’ll Always Have Summer” centers around Jeremiah and Belly’s hasty engagement following her discovery of his infidelity during spring break. This impulsive decision, which seemed irrational to me, is something I’ve never been able to support or comprehend. Regrettably, this aspect remains unchanged in the book-to-screen adaptation. However, significant alterations have been implemented to make these events more reasonable and coherent.

The Story Juxtaposes Jeremiah And Belly’s Situation With Steven And Taylor’s

As a devoted viewer, I found that the show skillfully muddied the waters for Steven and Taylor, shedding light on Jeremiah and Belly’s predicament in a way that resonated with me personally.

My Thoughts on ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’: Moving On from Conrad in Season 2 and Becoming a Devoted Jeremiah Supporter

The romantic dynamic between Steven and Taylor has emerged as a beloved aspect of the series (contrary to its absence in the novel), and it’s hard not to cheer for them. Their relationship saga unfolded further in Season 3, where it was disclosed they had been through periods of on-again, off-again, and currently, both are involved with other partners while secretly seeing each other. This situation is quite problematic, if I may say so myself, but it doesn’t deter me from hoping they end up together.

So, if I’m hoping they wind up together, it makes me reexamine what Jeremiah did to Belly.

It’s clearly wrong what Steven and Taylor are doing, just as it’s wrong in the case of the original situation. This confusion arises because I find myself questioning their actions, given that I disapprove of two people deceiving others to be together, yet I’m also upset with Jeremiah for being unfaithful while on a break with Belly.

Steven’s Accident Heightens Everyone’s Emotions, Which Helps Justify A Grand Gesture

In the book, Jeremiah quickly suggests marriage to Belly immediately following her discovery of spring break. This scenario is similarly found in the series, but it occurs post-Steven’s accident, a twist that author and showrunner Jenny Han hinted at as one of the show’s surprises.

In the wake of a severe car accident that ensued immediately following his heated argument with Taylor, he came perilously close to losing his life. As he underwent recovery, it served as a stark reminder to everyone about the brevity of life and what truly matters. Given these circumstances, it’s not surprising that extravagant displays of affection hold significant meaning.

Although I still believe that Belly and Jeremiah’s engagement might not be a wise decision, I recognize their thought process. They were deeply emotional, which led them to decide they couldn’t bear to be separated. Whether marriage is the best choice for them, I have my doubts. Yet, I can at least appreciate the reasoning behind their actions.

To Put It Simply, They’re Older And Not Literally Teens

Ultimately, Belly and Jeremiah have spent almost their entire college years as a couple before getting engaged on the show. However, in the book, she was 19 and they had only known each other for a shorter period. Personally, I find young marriages problematic, and given their brief history together, I couldn’t help but dislike their engagement.

In the series, Belly is wrapping up her junior year, while Jeremiah is nearing graduation, despite finding out he needs to extend his studies by another semester. They’ve been a couple for close to four years, and both are in their twenties. The closing chapters of this significant phase in their lives were about to be written.

So, I could get behind their choice to get engaged a bit more.

In essence, the surprising aspect lies in how they managed to justify their decision amidst tumultuous and potentially dangerous alterations. Interestingly, the more complicated they made things, the simpler it seemed to go along with their hasty choice.
