For over 40 years, Vanna White has been a familiar face on Wheel of Fortune. While it might not be the first thing people think about when they picture the show, her stunning wardrobe is a major part of its appeal. News, describing a surprisingly tiring beginning to the workday.
I arrive at the venue around seven in the morning. I spend the next couple of hours trying on between thirty and forty dresses to make sure they fit perfectly for the show. Then, around 8:30, I start getting my hair and makeup done. Our first show begins at 11:30, and after that, we perform many more throughout the day.
Let me tell you, watching Vanna White cycle through 30 to 40 dresses in just 90 minutes is genuinely astonishing. I’d be completely wiped out! I’m hoping those hair and makeup sessions give her a much-needed breather. And it doesn’t stop there – she’s actually changing into a new dress during every 15-minute break between tapings. It’s a whirlwind of fashion, and she handles it with incredible grace.
Ryan Seacrest’s co-host mentioned they only film for about 34 days each year, so they really need to maximize their time on set. When it comes to choosing outfits, there’s one key requirement: Vanna White must be able to comfortably reach the top row of letters on the puzzle board. If a dress limits her movement, it doesn’t make the cut.
During her 42 years turning letters on Wheel of Fortune, Vanna White has only worn the same dress once – and that was a mistake! While she re-wears her shoes often, she prefers cocktail dresses to long gowns to avoid tripping in her heels. Interestingly, Ryan Seacrest has stumbled a few times as host, but Vanna has never fallen – although she was once hit in the head by confetti.
Vanna White loves wearing light-colored, comfortable cocktail dresses with sleeves – ones she can wear without a strapless bra. However, she never actually gets to keep the beautiful outfits she wears on Wheel of Fortune. All 8,000+ of her dresses are borrowed for each show, carefully documented, and then returned after filming.
The dresses might not help solve the puzzles, but a lot of care and effort clearly goes into styling the show’s co-host, and I think that attention to detail is great.
