How Jonah Silver Is Quietly Becoming Danny Reagan’s Replacement

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Boston Blue Season 1, Episode 10!

Jonah Silver is determined to do what’s right, even if that means going off the beaten path.

The latest episode sees Jonah wrestling with his principles, torn between upholding justice and following his own conscience. Actor Will Scribner recently told ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley that his character is gradually taking on the role previously held by Danny Reagan.

It can be intimidating, and Jonah struggles with it. He has a strong moral compass – his own idea of what’s right and wrong. Usually, he’s pretty laid-back and methodical, but he’s starting to act more like Danny Reagan, taking unconventional approaches to pursue justice as he sees it.

The latest episode ended with a shocking moment, implying Jonah had killed the man responsible for his father’s death, Ronan Flaherty (played by Jack Murray). Although Ronan was in prison for the crime, a legal technicality led to his release, prompting Danny to investigate. Meanwhile, Jonah is torn between seeking justice and following the law. As Jonah grapples with grief and rage, he confronts his father’s killer, straining his family relationships and leaving him feeling helpless.

When I watched this, both as a viewer and while reading the script, I really wanted Jonah to succeed and take charge. However, he consistently disregards proper procedure and doesn’t follow instructions. This really highlights his personality – he’ll ignore directions if he disagrees with them, and doesn’t see it as a lack of power, but simply as refusing to comply. It’s likely a sense of privilege, given his family background in Boston – his father’s a judge, his mother’s a District Attorney, and he comes from a long line in the Boston Police Department. He really struggles with feeling powerless.

According to showrunner Jeb Scribner, how Jonah deals with Ronan in the later episodes will be a good sign of what to expect from his character for the rest of the season.

He’s quick to react and often acts impulsively, stepping in whenever he feels something needs attention, regardless of whether he’s correct or not. He’s confident in his own judgment and will follow what he believes is the right course of action. The story is also exploring developing relationships and complex family dynamics. Coming from a prominent family, he feels a strong need to prove himself as a capable and honorable police officer – to establish his own identity beyond his family name. This desire to prove himself will undoubtedly drive his actions going forward.

Scribner also mentioned that the show features some incredibly wild and exciting plotlines and scenes that viewers will love.

See it all go down on Boston Blue, airing Fridays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
