Spider-Man’s success as a movie star isn’t a given, but Sam Raimi’s trilogy was a major turning point. Even though superhero movies go through periods of popularity and decline, Spider-Man has consistently remained a fan favorite. The character has been successfully relaunched three times in theaters, and the most recent two films each earned over $1 billion, demonstrating his enduring appeal.
It’s hard to know if James Cameron’s planned movie would have been as successful as Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. Based on what Cameron has shared about his cancelled project, it likely would have attracted a smaller audience. Therefore, Raimi’s trilogy proved to be a more solid and widely appealing choice.
Spider-Man is still Marvel’s most successful and beloved franchise. A new story arc begins with Spider-Man: Brand New Day featuring Tom Holland, and exciting projects like Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and Season 2 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will expand the character’s adventures into different universes. Despite other interpretations, Spider-Man’s popularity continues to thrive.
