Be warned, major spoilers are ahead for FBI season 8, episodes 9 and 10! Jeremy Sisto, who plays Jubal on FBI, has discussed whether the tragic events surrounding Tyler will help rebuild the connection between Jubal and Sam. The season 8 fall finale featured a devastating terrorist attack where a building was bombed, resulting in many injuries and deaths. Among the seriously wounded was Jubal’s son, Tyler, who was bravely trying to warn police at the location when the bomb went off.
The latter part of the finale centered on the FBI team’s efforts to locate the terrorists, all while Jubal struggled to cope with his son’s situation. After suffering serious injuries and falling into a coma, his survival was uncertain. Fortunately, he pulled through, narrowly escaping death once again on the show.
In an interview with ScreenRant’s Tatiana Hullender, actor Jeremy Sisto discussed the impact of the recent tragedy on his character, Jubal, and his ex-wife, Sam, who witnessed Tyler’s near-death experience in the FBI midseason finale. Sisto mentioned that reading an essay Tyler wrote together, he believes the event might bring Jubal and Sam closer, though he acknowledges the complexities of their relationship.
The recent midseason finale featured a touching moment between Jubal and Sam as they read their son Tyler’s essay, even amidst a city-wide emergency. Given this connection, do you think this experience will bring them closer, and will we see Sam appear in more episodes later in the season?
I’m not completely sure, but it seems like Jeremy and his wife are trying to work things out. It’s surprising to see, but he’s no longer sleeping on the couch, and he’s still wearing his wedding ring, which is a good sign. Most importantly, it seems to be going well for their kids, and they’re happy with the situation.
Even with Jubal, and considering how complex relationships usually are, I suspect there’s still a lot we don’t know about where things stand. I wouldn’t be shocked if their relationship takes an unexpected turn later in the season.
Okay, so Jubal and Sam have always had this underlying tension, ever since Sam first showed up way back in season one. She’s popped in and out since then, but this time feels different – it’s tied to both of them being really worried about Tyler. Honestly, it’s not the first time we’ve seen Tyler in a tough spot, remember his leukemia battle in season three? It’s always stressful watching him go through things.
According to Sisto, Jubal and Sam might be able to reconnect, particularly after Tyler’s near-death experience. Although their son survives the latest episode, almost losing him likely made them realize what truly matters most in life.
Although the actor didn’t say how this event might help the couple reconcile, the show’s renewal for a ninth season of FBI gives them ample opportunity to explore their relationship. This could involve a romantic reconnection, or at least a more cooperative approach to raising their children.
Because Tyler is still recovering from his injuries, the rest of FBI season 8 can explore how his situation affects the evolving relationship between Jubal and Sam. Given the different directions their connection could take, it makes sense that their story will continue.
FBI season 8 returns in 2026.
