Dexter: Resurrection season 2 will be honoring a beloved character.
I’ve been completely captivated by Dexter! It’s amazing how this character, and the whole series, has become so popular around the world. From the original show to the prequels like Dexter: Original Sin, Dexter: New Blood, and Dexter: Resurrection, I’ve loved every bit of it. Now that it’s on Paramount+, even more people are discovering Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall is brilliant!), and it’s still one of their most popular shows – I can’t wait to see what happens next!
At a recent event for Dexter: Resurrection, Jack Alcott, who plays Harrison Morgan in both Dexter: New Blood and Dexter: Resurrection, spoke with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley about what’s next for his character. He discussed Harrison’s developing career path and how it might pay tribute to his on-screen aunt, Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter). Alcott also shared advice his co-star, Michael C. Hall, gave him about portraying Harrison.
ScreenRant asked if Harrison joining the police force in season two was a way to honor his mother, Deb’s, memory and keep her spirit present in the show.
To be honest, that’s a good point I hadn’t considered. But yes, I think the answer is yes – meaning, if there’s any possible reason Harrison might have made this decision, it applies. I remember talking to Michael, and he always said when considering a character’s choices or feelings, the answer should acknowledge both possibilities – it shouldn’t be one or the other, but both.
The show’s brilliance lies in its complex characters, particularly this one who constantly wants contradictory things. He’s a dangerous killer driven by instinct, yet he also feels genuine emotions like love and a desire for family. It seems like continuing his story, and especially through his son, is a way to honor the memory of a previous character, Deb. I believe the showrunners intentionally crafted this narrative, and it likely extends to the character of Harrison as well – it’s a definite yes from my perspective.
At the end of Dexter: New Blood, Harrison revealed his plan to become a police officer, even though his father Dexter was a serial killer and Harrison himself struggles with dark impulses. Recent photos from the set suggest a time jump, showing Alcott (who plays Harrison) working as a police officer.
Debra Morgan was Dexter’s adopted sister – known for her strong personality and protective nature. She was a Miami police detective who, after discovering Dexter’s secret, compromised her principles. She tragically died after being targeted by a serial killer. In the series Dexter: New Blood, Debra reappears as a figment of Dexter’s imagination, often acting as his conscience – a role previously filled by their adoptive father, Harry Morgan.
I’m not sure if we’ll ever see Carpenter or Deb back in the world of Dexter, which is a shame, but I’m really excited to see Harrison following in his father’s footsteps as a police officer. It feels like a way to keep the Morgan family’s sense of justice alive, and maybe even help Dexter find a way to deal with those monsters who slip through the cracks of the legal system.
Dexter: Resurrection is available to watch on Paramount+.
