House of the Dragon Season 3 Teaser, Photos Reveal New Character

Season 3 of House of the Dragon will introduce Ormund Hightower, a significant character hinted at in Season 2, and we’ve gotten our first look at his new appearance. He’s the Lord of the Hightower and leader of House Hightower.

Considering how closely tied House Hightower is to the upcoming conflict – a connection symbolized by the green beacon of Oldtown that signals their involvement in war – it’s somewhat surprising we haven’t seen Ormund (played by James Norton) yet. He will appear in Season 3 of House of the Dragon.

HBO has released a first look at some characters from its upcoming 2026 shows, including Ormund Hightower. The photos also feature Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell), and Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint). HBO released a preview showcasing upcoming shows, including a sneak peek at Season 3 of House of the Dragon. The preview also featured a short clip from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, another prequel to Game of Thrones, which fans have seen before. You can watch the preview video above.

House of the Dragon Returns in 2026

House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones (and roughly 100 years before A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms). The series depicts the Targaryen civil war – later called “The Dance of the Dragons” – which is detailed in George R.R. Martin’s book, Fire & Blood.

With peace talks failing at the end of Season 2, House of the Dragon Season 3 will fully immerse viewers in war. The series will continue beyond Season 3, and a second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is also planned.

HBO is excited to continue both series for the next three years, offering more content for fans of the Game of Thrones world,” said Francesca Orsi, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films. “House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms demonstrate the incredible depth and imagination of George R. R. Martin’s storytelling.

HBO’s House of the Dragon was created by Martin and Ryan Condall, though Martin has become less involved in the show recently. The series boasts a large cast, including D’Arcy, Cooke, Mitchell, Toussaint, and stars like Matt Smith, Fabien Frankel, Rhys Ifans, Phia Saban, Matthew Needham, Ty Tennant, and Sonoya Mizuno.

House of the Dragon Season 3 is expected to debut on HBO in the summer of 2026.
