Disney rumored to be developing a Digimon movie or TV show
Okay, so this is pretty exciting! I’m hearing from a reliable source, MyTimeToShineHello on X (formerly Twitter), that Disney is actually working on a Digimon project – either a movie or a TV show. It’s been buzzing all over social media since they posted about it. Apparently, there were whispers about this way back in 2020, with some reports suggesting Disney was considering a Digimon movie, but nothing ever really came of it until now. Geek Tyrant shared the details, and I’m really hoping this one actually happens!
A 2020 report indicated that Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox increased the chances of a new Digimon project. This is because several Fox channels had previously broadcast Digimon shows. Digimon is a well-established franchise with a history of anime, movies, and toys created by Bandai and Toei Animation. The first Digimon movie came out in March 1999, and the original television series followed soon after.
Toei Animation revealed a new Digimon anime called Digimon Beatbreak during Digimon Con 2025 in March. The show, which is expected to launch in October 2025, is described as a fresh Digimon story coming in about two years. In a November 2024 interview with Crunchyroll, producer Hiromi Seki explained that a new team of producers is now leading the Digimon franchise.
