Zack Snyder posts new Henry Cavill Superman photo

Zack Snyder recently shared a new photo of Henry Cavill as Superman on Instagram, jokingly calling it his “natural setting.” The image appears to be a still from the movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and is part of a series of behind-the-scenes photos Snyder has been posting from his DC films.

These film clips show Zack Snyder’s fondness for using traditional film when making Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. He’s sharing this older footage long after Henry Cavill stopped playing Superman and the DC movie universe he led ended.

Zack Snyder has consistently complimented Henry Cavill’s performance as Superman since he was first cast. At the premiere of ‘Man of Steel’ in 2013, Snyder jokingly said Cavill was “not horribly ugly” and in good shape, but also praised his acting ability and a unique, genuine quality he couldn’t quite put into words. Producer Deborah Snyder remembers Cavill’s screen test vividly: they didn’t have his suit ready, so he wore Christopher Reeve’s original Superman suit. When he emerged, everyone was stunned by how great he looked (according to EOnline).

Henry Cavill played Superman in several DC movies, starting with Man of Steel in 2013. He continued in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Justice League (2017), and Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021). He made a short appearance in Black Adam in 2022, before the studio changed direction.

James Gunn later confirmed Henry Cavill wouldn’t be continuing in the role, saying it was unfair to him and that he handled the news with grace and professionalism. Gunn described Cavill as a genuinely good person.

Superman will next appear in Superman: Man of Tomorrow, set for release on July 9, 2027.
