Henry Cavill’s Action Thriller Flop Continues to Defy the Odds With Streaming Victory

I have to admit, I’m surprised to see this one popping up everywhere! This action thriller, starring a well-known actor previously famous for playing a certain superhero, was pretty much ignored when it first came out – a real box office disappointment and critics weren’t kind. But audiences are discovering it now, and it’s gaining traction on free streaming platforms. It’s a tough, gritty story about a detective relentlessly pursuing a kidnapper, and honestly, there’s a lot to enjoy if you’re looking for something a little different.

I recently checked out this action thriller, also known as Nomis, and it was a surprisingly gritty watch. Henry Cavill plays Walter Marshall, a detective who’s completely dedicated to his job – and not afraid to bend the rules to catch a slippery serial killer. It’s a really different role for him, ditching that polished Superman image for a much more rough-around-the-edges, world-weary look. He definitely uses his presence to get what he needs, and it’s fun to see him play a character who isn’t a traditional hero.

David Raymond wrote and directed the action thriller Night Hunter, which stars Henry Cavill, alongside Stanley Tucci, Brendan Fletcher, Minka Kelly, and Nathan Fillion. The film has been consistently popular, repeatedly appearing in the top 10 on Paramount+ for months. Currently, Night Hunter shares the top spots with films like Gladiator II, the thriller Humane, and several Mission: Impossible movies, including this year’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. You can find a summary of Night Hunter below.

A police lieutenant, all of his officers, and a civilian crime fighter find themselves embroiled in a risky plan connected to a disturbed man with a history of kidnapping women.

When Night Hunter came out in 2019, critics heavily criticized it. It currently has a 14% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While audiences had a slightly more positive reaction, the movie still received a mixed 51% score on Popcornmeter.

Despite recently leaving his roles in popular series like The Witcher and as Superman, Henry Cavill has several exciting projects coming up. He’s finally starring in the reboot of Highlander, directed by Chad Stahelski, known for John Wick. After a long wait, the action-packed fantasy film is now being made by Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists, and Cavill will face off against Dave Bautista, a familiar face from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who will play the villain Kurgan.

The actor is set to work with Guy Ritchie again, reuniting with Eiza González from their previous film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. He’ll also star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the new action thriller In the Grey, lead Amazon’s Warhammer 40k series, and appear in Amazon’s live-action Voltron, directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber. Additionally, he’ll reprise his role as Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes 3 alongside Millie Bobby Brown.
