‘Help Us Make Another One’ Sebastian Stan Really Wants A Thunderbolts* Sequel (And I Totally Agree)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe regularly releases new movies and shows, both in cinemas and on Disney+. Viewers who have followed the series for years have been rewarded with a string of good films lately, including Thunderbolts directed by Jake Schreier. The movie centers on a team of flawed heroes who are essentially a new version of the Avengers, featuring Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes. Stan is hoping to make a follow-up, and I completely support that idea!

I was so thrilled to see Thunderbolts do so well in theaters! And it’s amazing that the cast is now officially connected to the Avengers: Doomsday team – it feels like everything is coming together. I recently read that Stan talked about how much he loved that crossover movie at Tokyo Comic-Con 2025 (The Direct reported on it), and he had some really interesting things to say…

I had such a blast! Everyone involved was just a really fun group, and seriously, so funny. David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, and Florence Pugh are incredibly talented – they really made the whole experience amazing. Honestly, it was just a great time all around. If you enjoyed the movie, please help us get the chance to make another one!

Stan Lee wanted to see the Thunderbolts become a major movie franchise. However, with no sequel currently planned by Marvel Studios, fans may need to show their support to get another film made. Of course, that depends on whether the team can survive the challenges posed by Doctor Doom in the next two Avengers movies.

Disney+ offers a streaming library that includes all Marvel Cinematic Universe content, like the upcoming Thunderbolts. You can start a subscription for as low as $11.99 per month with ads. For an ad-free experience, it’s $18.99 monthly, or you can save 16% by paying $189.99 for an annual subscription. See the deal here.

Details about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday are scarce, but excitement is building for the potential team-ups. Besides the Thunderbolts (also known as the New Avengers), we can expect to see the Avengers team led by Sam Wilson, the Fantastic Four, and the original X-Men movie cast. How these groups will work together – or if they’ll even get along – to face a shared threat, potentially against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, remains a mystery.

As a critic, I’ve been watching Sebastian Stan evolve as Bucky Barnes since the very beginning of the MCU with Captain America: The First Avenger. That’s why his enthusiasm for a Thunderbolts project really stands out. After so many years, and seeing colleagues like Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, and even Robert Downey Jr. step away from their iconic roles, you’d think he might be ready to hang up the Winter Soldier’s gear. Though, it’s interesting to note Downey Jr. is coming back, but as the surprising new villain, Doctor Doom!

I really enjoyed Thunderbolts – it was one of the best Marvel movies I’ve seen in a long time. I liked that the story felt real, the team worked well together, and it didn’t try to do too much. I’m hoping they make a sequel now that we know the characters and how they interact, and thankfully, it looks like we’ll be seeing them again soon!

You can now watch Thunderbolts on Disney+. And keep an eye out for Avengers: Doomsday in theaters on December 18th of next year, as it’s planned for release in 2026. Fans are hoping the New Avengers team makes it through and gets their own sequel!
