Vivienne Medrano, the creator of the popular animated series Hazbin Hotel, recently talked about the possibility of a live-action adaptation after the premiere of Season 2. She shared her vision for bringing the ‘Hellaverse’ to life and explained why she thinks the story would be particularly well-suited for a different kind of format.
Vivienne Medrano speaks on the prospects of Hazbin Hotel’s live-action adaptation
While promoting the premiere of Hazbin Hotel’s second season on Amazon Prime Video (October 29, 2025, according to ComicBook.com), Vivienne Medrano discussed the potential for a live-action adaptation. Medrano expressed interest in the idea, but clarified she envisions something beyond a standard live-action format. The show, also known as the “Hellaverse” series, has already been renewed for seasons three and four following a successful theatrical sing-along release earlier this year.
Vivienne Medrano, the creator of Hazbin Hotel, believes the show is best suited for animation. She’s generally hesitant about live-action adaptations unless there’s a compelling reason. However, she’s very enthusiastic about the idea of a stage production, particularly a musical. Medrano feels a theatrical adaptation would perfectly capture the show’s style and could even offer a fresh take on the characters and world.
Medrano explained how a live performance could capture the show’s music and emotions. She believes a play could make the characters feel more real and relatable, especially because the show is a musical. Musicals naturally allow audiences to escape into a fantasy world, and she thinks that would work well on stage.
New episodes of season two will be released two at a time, with a total of eight episodes available by the end of the year. Production on future seasons is also underway. Additionally, Medrano confirmed that Helluva Boss will continue to be a part of Amazon’s growing Hellaverse collection.
