Harry Potter’s Draco Malfoy Actor Reacts Unsurprisingly to Reboot & Recast

Tom Felton, known as the actor, recently expressed his opinions regarding the upcoming Harry Potter television series. In a fresh interview at the Toronto International Film Festival, he spoke about his anticipation towards encountering Draco Malfoy‘s second iteration. Additionally, Felton reminisced about the lasting appeal of the franchise, which has been captivating audiences for more than two decades since its initial release.

At the Toronto International Film Festival, Tom Felton expressed his enthusiasm about portraying Gandhi. He marveled at the enduring popularity of the wizarding world, as many fans who recognize him from Harry Potter weren’t even born when the first film was released. He’s eager to see the new version of Draco Malfoy being made, especially since they’re filming at Leavesden Studios, where the original films were produced. This brings a sense of déjà vu for him.

In 2027, HBO plans to debut its fresh interpretation, spanning over ten seasons, that revisits all seven books in J.K. Rowling’s series. Lox Pratt is set to portray Draco Malfoy, joining an exciting lineup of young performers who will breathe life into Rowling’s tale on the screen.

As a die-hard Harry Potter fan, I can’t help but feel connected to the franchise, and it seems that feeling is mutual! Fans never fail to recognize me, often shouting Draco Malfoy’s iconic “Potter!” catchphrase when we cross paths. A chuckle escaped me as I remembered a moment before stepping into the TIFF studio – I could swear I heard that familiar shout from outside, and it happens quite frequently. Yet, I always smile and find the recognition entertaining.

Felton mentioned that he might have landed the role in Gandhi due to a personal connection, explaining, “I believe it was through this connection that I got the part. I believe Hansal (Mehta) wanted a selfie for his daughter, our director, and perhaps that’s how I got the role.

In addition to his film career, Felton is set to return as Draco Malfoy in the Broadway adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, with performances starting on November 11, 2025. He expressed his excitement by stating, “Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the most significant accolades of my career. Performing in this production will be a full-circle experience for me, as I’ll be the same age as Draco when I take the stage in Cursed Child this autumn.

On March 22, 2026, his Broadway stint at the Lyric Theatre will come to an end, making this the debut performance of a cast member from an original film returning to the stage for the first time.
