Five years after it first appeared in theaters, Harrison Ford’s reimagining of a beloved adventure story is now a hit on streaming services. Ford is known for his versatility, having starred in everything from the iconic role of Han Solo in the Star Wars films to the thrilling action movie The Fugitive. Throughout his career, he’s delivered many unforgettable performances.
Harrison Ford starred in the 2020 adventure film, The Call of the Wild, which is based on Jack London’s classic 1903 novel. The movie tells the story of John Thornton, a Canadian frontiersman, and his friendship with a dog named Buck during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. Critics generally liked the film when it came out on February 20, 2020.
According to FlixPatrol, the movie The Call of the Wild is now a hit on Netflix worldwide, more than five years after it first came out. As of December 4, 2025, the film starring Harrison Ford is currently number 7 globally and appears in the top 10 lists of 19 countries, even reaching number 2 in seven of them.
Reviews of The Call of the Wild generally liked Harrison Ford’s acting and the film’s exciting adventure story, but many criticized the way computer-generated imagery (CGI) was used to create the animals. While the movie initially did well in theaters, it ultimately lost money, earning $111.1 million worldwide on a budget of around $125-150 million. The Covid-19 pandemic also contributed to its financial struggles.
I’m really excited about this new movie, but it’s not the first time Jack London’s story has been brought to life on film! Over the years, there have been several adaptations. I remember hearing about the classic one from 1935 with Clark Gable, and my dad used to talk about the 1972 version starring Charlton Heston. Even in 1997, they made another one with Rutger Hauer, and Richard Dreyfuss did the voiceover – it’s a story that keeps getting retold, and I think that speaks volumes!
The newest film starring Ford seems to be the most popular so far, likely because it’s widely available on Netflix internationally. While critics gave it mixed reviews – it currently has a 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – it’s a generally enjoyable and harmless adventure story about a man and his dog, making it appealing to viewers of all ages.
Now that Ford’s adventure film, The Call of the Wild, is available on Netflix worldwide, it has a chance to become even more popular as more people get to watch it. While it’s hard to say exactly how well it will do on the streaming service, the movie has already proven to be enjoyable for many viewers.
