Halo is a consistently popular franchise. Even if the next major game isn’t a hit, Master Chief will still be visible in things like merchandise, comics, and books.
However, a recent report from Rebs Gaming on X suggests the next Halo game might be more unique than we expected.
Halo Sounds Like It’s Going Back To Its Roots
A Lot Of Fans Are Here For It
I just saw that Halo: Combat Evolved got a mature rating from the Korean ratings board! And then, just a few days later, Australia gave it a mature rating too. It’s making me wonder just how much more violent or graphic this updated version of the game will be. I’m really curious to see what changes they’ve made!
The original Halo: Combat Evolved and its 2011 Anniversary Edition both received a Mature (M) rating due to blood and gore, violence, and strong language. This level of content has always been a part of the Halo series, but Microsoft later shifted towards a Teen (T) rating in subsequent games.
Some players believe that trying to appeal to a broader audience actually alienated longtime Halo fans. The game’s mature content was originally a key part of what made it unique, particularly when it first launched. However, as other similar games became popular, Halo began to lose some of its original fanbase.
I’m really hoping we’ll get a surprise release of Halo: Campaign Evolved during the summer Xbox showcase! But honestly, since we haven’t seen much about it yet, I’m starting to think it might get delayed until later in the year. Fingers crossed though!
A Darker, Grittier Halo Is Always Better
It Needs To Differentiate Itself
The updated Halo: Combat Evolved looks to be a truly definitive edition of the classic game. It will feature online co-op for up to four players, along with three new missions and a variety of added weapons, vehicles, and enemies. While remakes sometimes try to include too much, the game’s mature rating suggests this version will stay true to the original experience.
We still have many unanswered questions. The game hasn’t received a rating from the ESRB for the US, and we’ve only seen limited footage of Campaign Evolved after months of waiting. Even that short gameplay reveal sparked some debate, and fans are disappointed by the apparent absence of player-versus-player (PvP) multiplayer.
As a Halo fan myself, I’ve been keeping an eye on how Halo: Campaign Evolved is shaping up, and honestly, things are looking pretty good right now! Even if you’re not a hardcore fan, but you’ve enjoyed Halo in the past, it’s definitely worth checking out.
